2003 UK EUROVISION ENTRANTS
On March 2nd 2003 Liverpool duo Chris Cromby and Gemma Abbey, now better known as pop duo Jemini, won the BBC’s “Song For Europe”. After a live performance on the show and public phone vote of over 100,000 calls in five minutes, the nation decided Jemini should go forward to represent the UK with their pop hit ‘Cry Baby’…
…on May 24th 2003, in front of over 200 Million viewers worldwide, Jemini made history by becoming the first UK act to ever receive ‘Nul Points’ and only the second act to do so in the competitions’ 48 year history. After major complications with the monitoring system during the performance, combined with what has been widely regarded as a ‘political vote’ within Europe, Jemini walked straight into the record books and straight into the hearts of the nation!
Unprecedented press coverage followed their arrival back into the UK, with every newspaper, radio and TV show desperate to get their hands on Britains’ plucky losers. And as the track climbed higher in the charts, it showed that Jemini have much more about them than one performance and one show!
Chris and Gemma first met eight years ago at Liverpool’s Starlight stage school and in time formed their first duo act, spending the next two and a half years touring pubs and clubs in the UK performing Stevie Wonder, Randy Crawford and Motown covers, as well as their own compositions. They’ve combined their love for the classics and current pop as the group Jemini and set their sights on the charts and their hearts on musical success many years ago.
The single “Cry Baby”, which eventually charted at a fantastic no.15, is a slice of pure, infectious, disco-driven pop which will undoubtedly become a future pop anthem. It’s big, hook-laden chorus, universally understandable lyrics and powerful vocals give it the impact to put it right up there with the best of the new millenniums’ pop tracks.
For goodness sake, I didn't exspect new songs to be put up on the page! Thank you so much Jemini! Ain't No Stoppin is more than worthy of a No.1 position and I Try is such a catchy song. Thanks again!
