BIOGRAPHY
Jena has been writing songs for over 25 years. She has an Associate of Art degree in music from Santa Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music from University of California Santa Barbara. She is a single parent of a very musically talented teenage boy named Dylan Douglas. She has just completed a book on Songwriting called, Jena’s Book Of Songwriting 1 and plays with her rock band on a regular basis. Jena is looking forward to touring and writing more songs over the summer, and recording a new CD, “The Face Of Enigma”, with a little more on edge. “The Face Of the Engima” will be more on the Bluesy Rock Style as her songwriting skills keep evolving or revolving.
Her latest CD, “The Ballad of Calamity”, has a gotten some great reviews from all over the world. Nicky from Fireworks mag. in the UK states, “ Americana ...... at its finest”. The Ballad Of Calamity has such a collaborative feel because she recorded it with her friends and family. Kenny Edwards plays electric guitar, bass and mandolin, and is a phenomenal friend and musician who is founding member of The Stone Poneys with Linda Ronstadt. George Pendergast drummer from the band Dishwalla. Tony Ybarra classical guitar and graduate from USC. Keith Douglas, Jena's nephew, horn player for The Mad Caddies. Robinson Eikenberry very popular producer/engineer. He just finished mixing a live Cd of Karla Bonoff. The music is a sonic tapestry woven together from Jena's varied musical influences, from Johnny Cash to The Who. Recording songs is an art form. In the studio the songs become a picture of the moment of each song. Some songs are recorded simply, such as "Goodbye", while others have a complex texture involving an added soundscape, like "You Don't Wanna Know". "The Ballad of Calamity" takes the listener on a journey. For more information on The Ballad Of Calamity, see, www.jenadouglas.com
Over the years, Jena has more than 50 songs recorded. Starting with an all woman band in the eighties called “Wet Paint” to her next to last CD, “Faded Fiction”. “Faded Fiction” was recorded in 1998 with Ben Forrest Davis (formally with Sugarcult) as co-producer, drummer, guitar player and background vocalist. Also featured are some of the same musicians from “The Ballad Of Calamity”; Tony Ybarra, Keith Douglas and Dr. John Clark. “Faded Fiction” was recorded during the time Jena was attending, Santa Barbara City College. “And I Fell” from this CD was performed in front of David Crosby. David Crosby was very moved by the song and very personable to Jena about her song as you can read from the article, “Advice From The Woodstock Era”, see www.jenadouglas.com press/reviews.
After receiving her degree from the University in 2001, Jena plunged back into her songwriting and in 2004 released her songs recorded in 1998 as, “Faded Fiction” then went on to record, “The Ballad Of Calamity”. To promote her CD she put together a band and now is playing clubs and festivals around the Santa Barbara area. She is also submitting songs to film and TV and has just completed her songwriting book, A Singer/Songwriter’s Book Of Songwriting One to be published this year, 2009.

David Lockhart's painfully excessive capturing of the booze-swilling and constantly concupiscent Jim Morrison is an encyclopedic homage to the ethos of rock. Boudeeka's haunting accurate portrayal of Janis Joplin is a tribute to women in rock (she also plays the Airplane's Grace Slick) and the raw emotion that was so much a part of the scene. Carlton Poward is an almost frightening replica with his spot-on Jimi Hendrix characterization and inspired guitar playing.
p.s Give us a holla if you want to be part of future shows.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Four more little sonic gems for your August pleasure are now available on the site. Blitzen Trapper, Boulder Acoustic Society, Jay Brannan and The Wiyos. Yet another fine quartet even though we say so ourselves as picked them out.

Don't forget too, for those of you within striking distance of Leicester, Electric Dustbowl 2 on 19 September.

Hi Jena! It was quite a treat... a dream band .. .for one song! For one second there I let myself daydream (while singing. haa) that if I had Mike on drums/percussion, I would have my PERFECT dream band with these guys and Mike. All of them play other instruments, so they could switch it up and never get bored. The harmony possibilities would be endless, and the fomat limitless.. with each of them taking front and center too, to do their own songs and...... sigh. SO fun to dream, even at my age, headin to 60.. haaa. I still have a ton of living to do tho, and it includes a lot o music. I hope you are doing great Jena! Keep playing YOUR music! HUGS, Soooz
Hello, it's me, Ruby Jane.To those who don't know me, I am a 14 year old fiddler, songwriter. I have some songs posted that are fresh out of the studio. Let me know if you like the new songs..be one of the first to hear, even before they are released! Thanks! new videos too! Ruby Jane
Hello Jane. I hope you are well. Enjoy your mid-week- You, with your art and beautiful spirit, are a good lighthouse and I am glad to be your friend. Peace, respect and love from Italy. Kisses. Maria Grazia
One more question for ya. By any chance would you be interested in hosting an Indie on the Move banner on your myspace page or website to help us promote?
Hi Jena! It sure is great to hear from you. boy I wish I could make it down to Santa Barbara sometime and meet you in person. Glad to hear your working on new recordings. You do such a good job. I'm almost up to 100 songs recorded. At 96 actually. Lately, I've been painting a lot, though still going out and playing and also reading poetry. Variety is the spice of life. Anyway, thanks so much for popping by and adding cheer to my life. hope everything goes well, alex
I know! I miss seeing your smile! I hope you are well! Ever since I went back to work full-time I have NO time. It's just work and kids. Keep in touch. I'm always thinking of you! :)
