Jeni Hawkswell is a composer of electro-acoustic music. Her music is a blend of many styles and influences from electronica, to the ambient music of Brian Eno and the experimental elements of John Cage, Aphex Twin, Yannis Xenakis and Pierre Schaffer... Jeni finished her degree in Music and Music Technology at Liverpool Hope University in July 2005 and is looking into studying for a Masters in Electro-acoustic composition in the near future. During her degree, Jeni was lucky enough to study film music and wrote an original composition to accompany a scene from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon as part of her assessment and later on entered a competition run by the BBC to write an accompanying soundtrack for a nature programme set in the Galapogos Islands... As a result of writing music for film Jeni is interested in combining music with other art forms to create new and innovative installations and works. She feels that combining cross-discipline forms such as art, animation, theatre etc can enhance the overall sound and feel of the work... Jeni composes, performs and produces all of her own music with a couple of exceptions whereby the music has been performed by friends of hers from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). From an early age Jeni has been a self-taught pianist and studied the violin up until the age of 11. At the age of 12 she began to study Classical Guitar and reached a high standard very quickly. Since then the guitar has featured prominently in her works... Over the years Jeni's compositions have evolved considerably in style and structure, as well as experimentation through instrumentation, harmony and a thirst to create new and unusual sounds. She often experiments trying out new and innovative recording techniques, extended techniques on different instruments and combining live and pre-recorded elements into her works. In creating her electronic works Jeni primarily uses Sony Vegas and Sony Sound Forge and occasionally Cubase SX, Wavelab and Sibelius for score writing... Jeni's influences are broad and eclectic. Her open-mindedness towards new and experimental music, as well as the more 'traditional' styles, gives her music a unique blend of old, new and the more avant-garde...

It's basically a mixture of dark, trippy and wonderfully weird eclectic sounds that make up the majority of my pieces....and as for influences - too many to mention!
