Contemporary serial music is like a sailless ship, driven out to sea by its captain, who is privately convinced that by subjecting life aboard to the rules of an elaborate protocol, he will prevent the crew from thinking nostalgically either of their home port or of their ultimate destination.

MY DAD! HE IS A ROCK, HE GIVES WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING IN RETURN, HE HAS BEEN TO HELL AND BACK, 71Y/O & QUICK AS A WHIP, AND HE BACKS ME IN EVERYTHING I DO. I'LL BE A FATHER LIKE MY DAD! ..
I realize now the virtues of academia; for many years I was blind to the value of a formal education. I was brash, full of conceit… I truly believed I could supercede all on my own. I thought, “ Schools are there only to learn a trade, a craft, or to gain access to a profession.” I was wrong. No amount of reading could possibly compare to the atmosphere of intellectual thought found within the walls of a university. I’m not talking about other students, though one or two may “get it,” one needs to seek out and absorb from brilliant professors. Let them guide you, but not like a seeing-eye dog, more like a guide on a hot vacation spot. Take what you can of them, and let your mind go wild! The truth, and veritable virtue, lies in the oldest adage known to us: DIVINE THOUGHTS, DIVINE WORDS, DIVINE ACTIONS.

The Classic IQ Test
What's Your IQ?
Congratulations, Beija Flor!
Your IQ score is 136
This number is based on a scientific formula that compares how many questions you answered correctly on the Classic IQ Test relative to others.
Your Intellectual Type is Visionary Philosopher. This means you are highly intelligent and have a powerful mix of skills and insight that can be applied in a variety of different ways. Like Plato, your exceptional math and verbal skills make you very adept at explaining things to others — and at anticipating and predicting patterns. And that's just some of what we know about you from your IQ results.
You're a quiet person, but not too quiet. You like your own company at times, but don't mind the company of others. Ideally, a few people is better than a lot in most situations. You'd be well suited to living in a small town and can easily handle living on your own.
You know how to have a good time, but also know how to enjoy a good book. While a night on the town can be enjoyed, you don't like to go out all the time. One can get too much of a good thing.
You can be irritated by extroverts sometimes. Especially if they talk a lot about non-consequential things or other people. You can sometimes be misunderstood for being grumpy and some extroverts find you a little aloof.
You're probably relatively happy in who you are although something can always be improved upon.
Who I'd like to meet:
Allan Bloom, Marshall McLuhan, Noam Chomsky, Niel Postman, Jared Diamond, Roland Barthes, Borges, Spinoza & Kant, Descartes & Pascal, Franz Fanon, and Michel de Certeau.

'City Smells' is a new literary project set up by the Edit Red Writing Community.
We are running three writing competitions, Flash Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction and Poetry, all with the theme 'City Smells. The winners of each of these competitions will win $100. But more than this, we will take the best work from each competition and compile a paperback 'City Smells' anthology. The writers who make it into the 'City Smells' anthology will each receive free copies of the book and be paid a royalty in book sales.
To submit to these competition and stand a chance of being published in the 'City Smells' book you must be a member of Edit Red, as the submission process is automated. Joining Edit Red and entering these competitions is 100% free. If you make it into the book, we will pay royalties based on book sales.
Edit Red has existed for many years and was created and is still managed today by non-fiction author Alan Emmins, creative writing teacher Chris Lee Ramsden and literary reviewer Sean Merrigan.
If you are not already a member, we hope you will join and take part in this great literary event. Sign up here for free!
Thank you so much! I'm still sort of feeling this thing out, figuring out exactly how to use it in the best way. I guess just keep reading, and share your ideas if you have some. I should have a message board up there soon so hopefully people can start talking and networking with each other. And I'm super willing to help with any ideas anyone else has. If you can think of ways to make this something worthwhile, please do share, and hopefully soon enough a plan can be formulated! Meantime I'm going to get this traffic light thing going. Cheers, and thanks again!
