Influences
I'll be forever grateful to my former teacher, the late Willie Hunter. He was an amazing man and teacher and I'm so lucky to have had his tuition.
Playing with Filska from such a young age has been amazing, my Mum played piano with us and she did so much work in order for us to get every opportunity to play music and travel from such a young age. We recorded our first Filska album when i was 14years old and we're still playing together! It feels very special and pretty unique to have that history together. We're working on our 4th Filska just now, its been in the pipeline for some time now but we;re really excited about it. The band is more than playing music together, they are my best friends and its such a joy to work together.
There are loads of fiddle players all over the world that I love listening too, Willie Hunter, Bryan Gear, Liz Carroll, Gordon Gunn, Dezi Donnelly, Aly Bain, Cathal Haydn, Martin Hayes, Winifred Horan - to name a few!
I love James Taylor and I've managed to see him 3 times live, Mark O'Connor and Stuart Duncan have featured on his recordings - another two great fiddlers.
I'm influenced by pretty much everyone I'm involved with in music, the Dochas crew, Filska, Deaf Shepherd. Transatlantic Sessions 3 was a major highlight in my career and it was an experience I wont forget in a hurry!

Hailing from Shetland, Jenna is undoubtedly one of the finest fiddle players ever to grace the traditional music scene.
‘Laughing Girl’ released on Footstompin Records is the second solo album from Shetland Fiddler Jenna Reid, and promises to deliver the bright talents of one of Scotland’s most prominent young musicians.
Nominated as ‘Best Instrumentalist’ at the 2007 Scots Trad Awards, her new release showcases music and song from Shetland and Scotland featuring Kevin Mackenzie, Bethany Reid, Duncan Lyall, James Thomson, Iain Sandilands and Martin O’Neill.
Since releasing her debut solo album ‘With Silver & All’ in 2005 and being awarded ‘Best Up and Coming Artist’ at the 2005 Scots Trad Music Awards. Jenna was invited by Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas to perform on the third series of the
Transatlantic Sessions.
A protégé of the greatest names in Shetland fiddling, Dr Tom Anderson MBE and Willie Hunter, Jenna has appeared all over the world with Shetland fiddling sensations, ‘Filska’, Scottish super group, ‘Deaf Shepherd’ and ‘Dochas’, winners of ‘Best Up and Coming Band’ at the 2004 Scots Trad Music Awards. Dochas are also nominated for ‘Best Folk Band’ at the 2006 Scots Trad Music Awards.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
