I was born in New York, New York. Broadway and jazz classics have always inspired me as a singer, more recently, in the last 10 years, I’ve been much influenced by the timeless classics found in the traditional songs and tunes of Celtic and Irish lands. My first cd is comprised of original, traditional and contemporary songs, it is available through my website www.jennifer-johnson.com and at cdbaby, www.cdbaby.com/jennajohns.
I’ve spent alot of time in Cape Breton Island over the past 6 years, and played solely Cape Breton fiddle for a number of those years, between visits - audiotapes, videotapes and the shed- more recently, I’m spending some time in my own back yard studying and playing Irish music. I’m grateful to the wonderful fiddle players who have inspired and guided me along the way, especially my friends in Cape Breton Composer/Fiddler John MacDougall and Fiddler/Step-Dancer Katie MacLeod, and Irish fiddler Athena Tergis and New York Sligo fiddler Brian Conway.
I look forward to spending some more time with the songs this year and recording and promoting my second album.
