Bio

Jennifer Berdetta's passion for music began early in life, listening to some of our greatest storytellers, including The Beatles, James Taylor, and Carole King. As she was raised by her grandparents in New Jersey, Jennifer was exposed to Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra & Billie Holiday. By the time she was five years old, Jennifer had begun performing. As a teenager, she was lured by the song-writing and voices of Gladys Knight, Donny Hathaway, and Elton John. It was at this point that she began studying with acclaimed teacher and mentor, Nanette Natal. Eager to hone her song-writing skills and musicianship, Jennifer enrolled in The Jazz Program at The New School in New York City, where she was pulled in by the blues. That was when she decided that she would never put a limit on her style, so she developed the vocal ability to make any genre of music her own.

As Jennifer's writing and singing ability continued to flourish, she was saturated in the NYC music scene. She performed and recorded with an extensive array of musicians, including members of The SNL Band, Hall & Oates, The Blues Brothers, Ben E. King, Late Show w/David Letterman Band & The Jazz Expressions.

Through a chance meeting with Paul Jackson and Bennie Maupin of Herbie Hancock's The Headhunters, she was led to Japan. Simultaneously, her friendship with Little Jimmy Scott led her to Europe. Jennifer then went on the road, touring in Japan, Europe and The Netherlands. After several years, she returned home to New Jersey, to take a break from performing and begin recording her CD.

An introduction to Anthony Krizan of The Spin Doctors, by a mutual friend became a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Anthony's well-crafted songs and musicianship, coupled with Jennifer's soulful voice, set the stage for an exciting collaboration. The finished product, her debut CD, "There's A Reason", shows her diversity as a vocalist, combining funk, blues, roots and gospel, all infused with a pop feel. Whatever Jennifer sings has a universal message, which she communicates through the sincerity in her voice.

As she invites us in to become a part of her musical journey, Jennifer has built a loyal & devoted fan base. Her love of performing, travel, waking up in new cities & experiencing the music scene worldwide, will take her on the road to promote her follow-up release later this year.

"Human lyrics, beautiful vocals, a fiercely unique style, and a kick-ass backup band - this is everything you could ask for (and more) in a vocalist. You won't hear anything else like it." --- Phil of The Phil & Buck Show, WMSU 90.3

"Unbelievable. You cant help but feel what shes singing. When you pop this cd in youll leave it in the player for weeks. You have a bad day 'There's A Reason' brings you back. The voice of an angel. 'I Promise You Peace' leaves you longing for more. A must have!" --- Mike, cdbaby.com

"Jennifer's got a great voice and the melodies cling somewhere in the back of my mind!" --- Albert, SAB Believer
< br/> "Jersey girl Jennifer has a great voice and sings strong hook laden songs written (by/with) collaborator Anthony Krizan of The Spin Doctors. What makes her so appealing is the well crafted blend of roots and pop, giving the songs a depth that she exploits to the full. Will go far" --- Adams Apples

"Jennifer's clear, emotive & soulful voice is a rare treasure in todays market... her style draws from the great voices of blues, jazz & soul... yet her sound is all her own. A must see!" --- Jean Taggart, Paris Gazzette
