She confidently walks across the darkened stage, grabs the mic and launches into a soulful vocal performance as the lights come up and the band kicks in. This is where Jennifer Grenda lives. The stage loves her and the crowd can’t help but be captivated by her presence – with no conscious effort, she demands your attention. She owns you. From sultry and whispery moaning to full-on rock wailing, Jennifer delivers in style. She is incredibly dynamic and her voice brings you along for the ride as it soars from the highs to the lows and everywhere in between while the song breathes and seems to live a life of its own.
Jennifer is a seasoned performer in both the cover and original scenes of Calgary. She hit the ground running upon arriving there from Ontario and quickly made a name for herself performing covers and originals with local faves My Mother Grooves. The band started out doing covers but then started adding their groovy original music to the set list. The music was a melting pot of styles but sat heavily in the rock and funk categories. Feedback was tremendous as fans embraced the original music and clamored for more. Unfortunately it was not meant to be, as the band succumbed to the usual pressures and ended up going their separate ways before completing their much anticipated debut CD. While this was going on, Jennifer was also performing and recording with the all original outfit, Eurodog. This band represented a harder rock focus and allowed Jennifer to apply a grittier edge to her vocal styling. Once again the fans were very supportive and their highly anticipated debut CD, As Long As It Takes, was warmly received. However, this also proved to be a false start as the band again was unable to survive the external pressures placed upon it and ultimately lost its way.
Fast forward to today with new inspiration and drive. Jennifer is now working on her solo project. The funk is back. The soul is back. The rock is back. This combination is the vehicle for Jennifer to express what’s in her heart and on her mind. Listen to the recordings and you will be drawn in. You can feel her heart and soul stretching and pulsating as her voice soars over the music and she alternately celebrates her triumphs and exorcizes any setbacks. This is life. This is real. This is music. Listen.
