Band MembersJust Jennifer and her guitar, a Tak named Bennett. And every once in a while, a lovely assistant vocalist by the name of Lindsay, or qSarah, or Sarah. When she has need of a kickin' band, like in Ottawa in July 2007, she enlists the help of Slim Sixty, who rock in general.

Sounds LikeDepends on the day - some have said Jann Arden, Amanda Marshall, Jennifer Knapp, Jewel, and 'a young Joni Mitchell/Karen Carpenter'. Early in the morning, she kind of sounds like a man. And after a cup of coffee, she sings like a frog. It's not pretty... somebody get the girl a glass of water!

   About Jennifer Jade Kerr

Someone once said, "Everyone needs a feisty red-head in their life." Jennifer Jade Kerr fits the bill. She performs with a mix of intensity and humour, and her music has been described as "wise", "passionate", and "breathtaking".

Jennifer Jade Kerr grew up in a little farming town in south-eastern Saskatchewan. Her father bought her her first guitar when she was 17, during a trip to the city to buy tractor parts. By that time, she had been writing songs for 5 years, and they finally began to come to life.

JJK began performing her own material at open mic nights and songwriter circles during her university years, and after earning her BA in Religious Studies, she spent a year on the road with Christian music organization CREW Ministries as a member of the group "Saltwater", releasing an album called "In the Key of La". Owing a great deal to the Saskatchewan music community and its supportive atmosphere, Jennifer has appeared on numerous Saskatchewan radio stations covering multiple genres, as well as the stages of the Casino Regina Showlounge, the Craven Country Jamboree, the Conexus Arts Centre, and the Pump Roadhouse. In March 2008, JJK's song "I Don't Want You to Know" won the regional prize in the Radiostar National Songwriting Competition, taking her to Toronto to showcase at Canadian Music Week. Her debut solo album, "Somehow it always does..." was released in September 2008 on the indie label Golden Flame Records. It is available at live shows, and also at CDBaby.com.

JJK has always loved Canadian music, Canadian Christian music in particular. In October 2009, she attended the Gospel Music Association of Canada conference in Calgary, AB. With a top-6 finish in the Cross-Canada Talent Search, and many friendships and contacts as a result, JJK considers the week an overwhelming success.

Although well able to cover songs in various genres, JJK's passion is performing her original material. Her goal is to be HOT - Honest, Open, and Transparent, about who she is and what she holds dear. JJK's inspiration to write comes from many places - her faith in Jesus and the spiritual journey as she seeks to follow Him, her family and friends, stupid boys, nice boys, the prairies, shoes.... life in general. And life is good.

JJK now resides in the lakeside city of Kelowna BC. Much of her time is spent working with and mentoring the youth and young adults in her congregation, and serving in her church's worship music ministry. In her spare time she enjoys bike riding, seeing live music, having coffee with friends, and watching the Food Network (when she actually has cable, that is).

Hmm, that's odd that you can't listen to songs.  Hope that gets fixed for you soon.  :)

Hmm, no I don't really know of any good festivals or anything like that.  I'd love to play more often as well.  I just moved down here from Armstrong, BC a month and a half ago, so I'm still checkin' everything out.  "The Habitat" has an open mic every Wednesday night that I've played at a few times.  I'll let you know if I find an oppurtunity to play.  We should organise an open mic at one of the churches, that would be awesome.

You are SO right. A broken shoe can't stop anything... especially when your friends' mothers have a needle and thread!!

Have a good WEEK! :) I miss you terribly. Let me know when you decide to come and brave this terrible weather again. This weekend in Brandon we had a thunderstorm complete with pouring rain and lightning, and today we got at least a foot of snow.
GAH!

Come on summer!!
