Jennifer Milich and Seth Ginsberg have been playing music together for at least ten years - Jen used to be the girl Seth would call on stage when his band needed a female vocal. They supported each other's bands - his was the Rooftop Cowboys and later Mad Cow Town - hot fusions of country swing klezmer and rock - hers was Adam's Curse, a singer-songwriter lyric heavy punk acoustic duo (really). When they again joined forces a few years later Jennifer was drawn more to the raw sounds of Americana than to the indie rock she had always loved - she fell in love with the Carter Family and wanted to bring their kind of intimacy and heart to the sound she had been exploring with Seth. They formed a new band, working and reworking old songs, writing new songs that sound like tunes you've always known, and finding a fit for all of their influences in their refurbished folk/lounge feel - from Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits to Muddy Waters, Billie Holiday and Rickie Lee Jones. Right now they are playing around town with their little family band - joined by Dennis Lichtman, who is also a member of their favorite bluegrass band, Astrograss. Check out Cold River too - Jennifer's collaboration with Astrograss's Jordan Shapiro - progressive americana with a big heart.
Jennifer also sings with Brooklyn's own AudraRox - a rock band for kids and families - and their video can be seen this season on Noggin's "Jack's Big Music Show" - www.audrarox.com.
Last Minute blast to all our myspace friends telling you about a few announcements. First off....this Saturday we will be performing at Little Tree Studios in Avondale, GA for any of you Georgia folks, it is a part of a great event called Avondale Arts District Holiday Showy . We will be joined by Pierce Edens as well!
We also wanted to let everyone know about our New Years plans. The Mamas are going to be joined by our friends Dehlia Low for a New Years Celebration at the White Horse Black Mountain. Tickets are 20.00, and can be found at the venues website. We can't wait to play this great occassion and share it with all of you!
