The adrenaline starts pumping as the crowd starts cheering and you know the success of the evening teeters on just one thing……The M.C.. Backstage she checks her makeup, makes the final touches to her hair and then struts out on the stage to the roar of her awaiting fans. Night after night, week after week, city after city, the success of the show all depends on the talent, grace, poise and personality of the show’s host. I for one could not handle the critics time after time but that is what separates the men from the Queen’s, the true performers of the GLBT community. Costumes? Is there no end? Now I know all good queens have their drag but when your costumes far exceed the person you are impersonating, what then? And I can not forget the choreography, it is difficult enough for a performer to add effortless dance moves but that is because the choreographer is customizing the moves to fit the performer. Now some poor impersonator in going to have to try to copy those same signature moves and make them look just as good as the original if not better. Well have no fear, Jennifer’s wardrobe would make even the “Housewives of Atlanta” jealous and that toned body will match move for move even the best-trained dancers. At the Gay Pride festival in the fabulous sin city, Las Vegas, NV the pride of Hampton Roads VA Jennifer Warner showed all in attendance what hard work and true dedication to your craft is all about. Miss Warner grew up in a typical American family in Portsmouth Virginia, a Mom, a Dad and what she calls two “very masculine” brothers. Needless to say, it did not take her very long to realize that she was quite different than her siblings. At the tender age of just 8, she said she was starting to realize that she identified more as a female than as a male. An internal struggle that would most certainly prepare her for anything life threw her way. Although it is improper to reveal a ladies age, lets just say; growing up in middle America, the internet was limited at best for information, if you were even lucky enough to have it, and knowing that your inside does not match our outside, must have been quite daunting and isolating for a young child. Jennifer is however fortunate enough to have a loving and supportive family, unlike so many in our community. To quote from her myspace page “MY MOM IS MY HERO …LOVE YOU MOM !!! SHE IS MY TRUE BLUE FRIEND..ALWAYS THERE FOR ME..LOVE YOU MOM”. I believe it is this same love and support that she shares with everyone she meets. I had the pleasure of spending pride weekend with this dynamic Diva and all I can say is “Gorgeous”. Okay, I kinda stole the catch phrase from her, but it encompasses all that she is, not only on the outside, but also on the inside. She is one who looks for beauty in everything and in everyone she meets. She encourages everyone to be unique and original in his or her own way. She was kind and generous with everyone she met, taking the time to talk to as well as take pictures with all of her fans. Seemed everywhere we went there was a fan in the crowd yelling “gorgeous”. With her obvious beauty and charming personality, it was only rational that she join the world of entertainment. Her Pageant titles include; Miss Gay Virginia, Miss South Carolina Continental, and Miss Virginia World, as well as her various bar titles, so there was no question in the minds of the organizers of Las Vegas Pride Festival when it came to choosing a host for the parade. She and co-host Sean McCallister, who works for Fox 5 News during the morning show, were the perfect choice. Both are very sexy, fun and very entertaining. Watch out Regis and Kelly. True to form, Jennifer has chosen to use her popularity and reputation for charitable causes. Actively working with Various AIDS charities. She has hosted the Adam Wayne’s annual fashion shows in the past which raises money for AIDS/HIV awareness for Access AIDS Care. She has also performed in and hosted a multitude of other charitable events. Giving to others in the GLBT community has become a staple in her life but still she is most proud of the money she has helped raise for children with AIDS. I can not begin to identify with the Tran-gendered community. I can not begin to imagine the frustration and confusion they must face on a day to day basis. I always find it amazing when nothing but good comes from those who have faced challenges one can only imagine. For instance, when the world has a hard time accepting you, love them and eventually they might come around. There is no logic in this type of thinking for a person like me and so I must conclude that there is still much for me to learn. Spending time with this amazing woman has forced me to face some very basic facts: Love your enemies, never take anyone or anything for granted and most importantly, if you want something bad enough only you can prevent yourself from achieving it. She has made it her goal to change the world for the better, always see the good in any situation and never stop believing in yourself. As they say “There is only one way to truly fail at any task. Stop trying”. Fortunately for all, failure is not a word in Jennifer’s vocabulary. In the words of a wise woman, never forget…..You’re Gorgeous. N.
