Having parents who participated in Jazz, Bee-Bop, Blues, Country, Gospel, and Classical. It was inevidable that I was affected. While my father stayed true to his Jazz, Blues, and Country roots. My mother was kicking it to the lastest hits on the radio. And just about anything that had music in it, on it, or about it, airing on television. I was exposed to a world of music that had no boundaries. I loved melodies, and harmonies, no matter were I found them. To some this would have been a burden. I never let it deter my passion for the opportunity to make music happen in my life. And baby, did it ever happened! In fact, now I look back and think I couldn’t have stop it even if I wanted to. I love this blessed life, to me its a chance to give thanks no matter how unfortunate I may feel from time to time. Nothing is ever so bad that you can’t sing a song to lift you high above it all. My solution for a safe journey on the way to life. So with all that said I will tell you some of my influences that live in my head. Moma, Ms. Ella L. Douglas. I can still hear her voice in my head when I sing a standard. When I was able to sing in front of Mother, I discovered that I loved Nancy Wilson, Roberta Flack, Sarah Vaugh, Aretha Franklin, Odetta, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Diana Washington and Judy Garland. Then I thought, ok these are my mothers heros. Like I said my mother loved to mix it up. From James Brown, Wilson Pickett, The Dells, The Temptation, to The Beatles, Stones, Tina Turner (major influence). From The Beach Boys, to The Beastie Boys, Chaka Khan, Joyce Kennedy, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Carlie Simon, Mary J. Blige, Aaliah, Brandy, and Prince. Nobody at a record company knew what to do with me. I had no difinitive sound, I had to many difinitive sounds. So what do I do. I join a gospel choir in my teens and record for the first time. Gods been with me ever since. Because I didn’t stop at that I went on to record under a funk band, an african jazz artist, a theatre soundtrack, a rock band or two, a R n B male icon and Target. The list goes on and on and it don’t stop until the break of dawn. Who Knew? I sure as hell didn’t.

The Stones. Chaka with Gwen Stefani, AC/DC with The Isleys, Billy Joel with Marvin Gay, Barry White with Zero Seven/Olive/or Massive Attack, Sarah, Billy, Odetta, Cho Cho Taylor with Aretha, Gladys, Mavis, Nona Hendynx, Patti Austin and Labelle, I guess you get me.
