Musical influences: Music I have tried to grow up listening to...John Denver, Carly Simon, Carol King, great guitar players....Bernard Cribbins..everything my parents played on long journeys in the car including Ralph McTell's ALPHABET ZOO. ...I'm Kenny and I'm a Kangaroo, garoo, garoo, garoo...
Other influences: Old people, Roald Dahl, prejudice, food and eating, people who make me laugh, family and friends, people and the things they say and do while I happen to be near enough to notice.
Food in general.

People have some things to say:........
"Just heard your album. Thank you for that gift of innocence. I laughed out loud on the bus. Truly kids songs for adults. Wonderful. I loved Chocolate cake” -Rohan Malloy, comedian. He bought a cd and he liked it... "Jenny Lockyer sang some very amusing and in some cases disturbingly sexy songs" -what people thought at the Poetry Shack.
"After I'd done it was time for Jenny Lockyer again, who was GRATE - several songs I'd not heard before this time, dealt out EXPERTLY. She really is brilliant - every time I see her I think "But surely she should be on the TELLY?" Her stuff's SO funny and so briliantly performed - when I have my star-studded international light entertainment career (it can't be far off now surely?) i shall have her on my show as special guest EVERY week! " MJ Hibbett, brilliant writer and performer of happy songs.
"Your belly button song made me cry.."(in a good way!) -Miriam Jones, lovely singer songwriter.
"Filigree, delicate magic" -Nick Goodall, the friendly poet who bought a cd...
"Bewitching" -James O Nuanain, he bought a cd too
"Too likeable" (to throw things at) -BBC Bradford Stage.
"A rarity" - Francis Gerald Harper, happy member of the public.

Hello!
See below a podcast recorded with Marcus Reeves featuring me and Tricity Vogue, each of us plugging gigs etc... I sang a couple of songs...Skinny Jim and the song without a proper name..neither of which were on here. Was a lot of fun to do. Was almost like being on the radio!
I'm on at about 09.50 for chat and Skinny Jim and 15.48 for the other song..
JENNY'S TIME OF THE MONTH: My monthly night at Native Tongue in Epsom is no longer for a while due to budget restraints at the venue in these credit crunched times.. hopefully it will be back with some really great acts and a slightly new format. I will let you know of any developments...
(click me with the knitting bag below for updates)
I am busy writing new songs, newest one called 'Nothing's Changed'...inspired by some recent channel hopping disappointment.
I haven't played as many gigs as I could be mostly because I am so busy with Funsense but there are a few coming up...next one currently being 2nd December up in Birmingham for Hideout at the Fox bar.
*Randomness*
...And yes I was on the Culture Show in the Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo bit..incase you were wondering...only in the audience but managed to take up about 2 minutes of screen time rambling on about how a bodyguard character in Abba The Movie is now Lou Carpenter in Neighbours...
I'm sure there were people there with far more culturally helpful facts who didn't have their contributions shown. Oh well. I'm so sorry about that.
Had the pleasure of Ellie Lawson's music recently where she introduced her last song and said it was called, 'Stuck to my guns'. I thought she said it was called 'Stuck to my gums' and was immediately expecting her to sing about things that stick to your gums, like popcorn and cornflakes...but no. This is not what she was singing about at all.

WHAT DOES JENNY DO?
Jenny likes singing songs that make people laugh. She also likes singing songs that make people go 'mmmmm' in a contemplative and happy kind of way. Sometimes people give her money. Whether it is money to keep her singing , money to buy a cd or money to make her be quiet is of no consequence. It is still money. She is based in Epsom, Surrey but has travelled all over performing her songs.
AND WHAT STARTED ALL THIS OFF THEN? Jenny loves music hall and variety and when she was nowt but a lass spent a lot of her time in the Stepping Out Amateur Revue Company singing old time music hall songs which got her involved in all kinds of fings. It all started with her skill for entertaining the crowds with beautiful renditions of ‘Little Dick’ and ‘The Marrow Song’ which involved a large green vegetable and a lot of imagination....basically she loves performing and has been lucky enough to present her own material sharing theatrical bills with Will Self, Adam Buxton, Chris Green, Dylan Moran, Tim Vine, Paul Kerensa and Shazia Mirza...
WHAT INTERESTING PLACES HAS SHE PLAYED? Rosemary Branch Theatre, Bradford Alhambra, The Priestley, Pleasance Theatre London, the Rutland Pub Hammersmith, Cheeky Chappies Comedy Club Leicester Square, people's back gardens, The Harlequin Theatre Redhill, shopping centres, The Space on the Isle of Dogs, 'You must be stoking' at The Stoke Pub Guildford, The Garabaldi pub in Redhill, Freedom of Expression, London Palladium, Poetry Shack, The Komedia(Birthday Club), Orange Tree Theatre, Monkey Business Comedy Club, Edinburgh Festival, Vauxhall Griffin, Hoxton Hall, Birmingham Gay Pride, school classrooms, living rooms, her own bedroom, people's worst nightmares and other places......

RANDOM HAPPENINGS Jenny once did an audition for the Sooty show. Yes, she had her hand up Sooty himself. And Sweep. She was star struck. All day.

She is currently artist in residence with Funsense, at Gosden House School in Guildford. ...... mmmmm, so there you go then.
Well I caught the end of the culture show as I didnt realise it is now back on, but yep there you were talking about Lou from Neighbours, I thought to myself I recognise that smile and voice! Mark Kermode actually lives near where I used to live and I used to serve him in the restaurant I used to work in about two years ago along side Ken Russell the director, who is a great friend of his ! Kool you got an opportunity to go on the show, as I love that show !
Hello Jenny, Bobby here, I brought a c.d off you the last week at the Green Dragon as a present for a friend, it was good to see you perform, when I am a bit more flush, I will buy one for myself!! Did I see you on the culture show tonight ( wednesday 29th July) talking to Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo about Lou off neighbours being in the Abba movie- you really do have an obsession with Neighbours if it was you or maybe it is your doppelgangar- tee hee, keep up the good work B:-)

Stupid question right? As of 2nd April 2009 I’ll be organising monthly acoustic sessions at what remains one of Southampton’s best-loved venues. I’m looking for the best solos and duos to play 45 minute sets of original material, covers or both. The only ‘rule’ is that you play quality stuff, so if you’re sick of banging out Mustang Sally this could be for you! The evenings will run from 8pm until 11pm with 3-4 acts performing each time, so well worth coming to if you also enjoy hearing other people’s music. Please let me know asap if you’d like to be part of it!
There’s so much great talent in this town, I’m sure we can make this a really cool night. I would really appreciate your support in giving Southampton a superb acoustic music night that will last! :o)
Hi Jenny Thanks so much for inviting me to play Time of the Month, was lots of fun, and you are a charming host. Hello to all the other wonderful folks who were there, xxx Jude x
