Jenny Schaeffer, formerly Jenny Genovese, was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, and grew up in small, rural towns in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This small town atmosphere that she loves is apparent in her work, especially in her collection of General Store paintings, which were the subject of her one-woman show in 1997. Recently, her work has taken a different direction, with her series of vividly colorful Dragonfly watercolors and Waterlily oil paintings. Also included in her recent works are a variety of Still Life and Landscape paintings, depicting some of her favorite places, plus a new set of drawings and cards of the Silver Lake area of Yardley, PA, of which she donates a portion of her sales to the Makefield Lakes Community Association.
Jenny's style is a harmonious blend of impressionism and realism. Using soft, unfocused strikes in her backgrounds, she captures a style very similar to that of the turn of the century French painters she loves so dearly. Yet her foregrounds, although painted in a similar style, hone in on details rarely seen in traditional Impressionism.
Jenny is proficient in a variety of medium, including watercolor, pastel, pencil and charcoal. However, her greatest love is painting in oils. She began painting at the age of three, greatly encouraged by her parents, and hasn't stopped since.
She has been a professional freelance artist for over fifteen years and has painted many commissioned works. Her artwork is included in a variety of both public and private collections across the United States. Jenny was employed at the Framing Fox Art Gallery in Lebanon, NJ for seventeen years as a gallery manager. Jenny now works out of her home studio in Bucks County, PA, where she resides with her husband and two children.
She is currently an associate for Radclyffe Art Gallery in New Hope PA, a freelance children's face painter covering the NJ and Bucks County PA areas, and a show consultant for Image Makers Art / Gallery of Stars in New Hope, PA.
