I was thinking about this section of myspace on the way home today, (strange I know), and I was also thinking about those compilation CDs they sell at Starbucks where the famous artist has chosen songs that inspired them. Since I know that no one will ever ask me to make one of those, I've decided to just list what I would choose if I was asked. So, this is my compilation CD (in no particular order.)
Sara Groves - Painting Pictures of Egypt
BB King - When Love Comes to Town
Emmylou Harris - Red Dirt Girl
Mindy Smith - Come to Jesus
Derek Webb - Wedding Dress*
Patty Griffin - Tony*
The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin'
Weezer - The Good Life*
Ben Folds - The Luckiest
Janis Joplin - Half Moon
Jennifer Knapp - Hold Me Now
Sheryl Crow - Crash and Burn
Lauryn Hill - Zion
Coldplay - Trouble
Alison Krauss - Stay
The Beatles - Norweigan Wood
Dave Matthews - Christmas Song
James Taylor - Fire and Rain
Michael Card - El Shaddai
So now, you can download or compile these tunes onto your own cd or playlist. Voila! Almost as good as Starbucks!
*Warning, you may find these lyrics offensive.
Sounds Like
Jennifer Knapp, India Arie, Mindy Smith, a little bit o' Janis--but mostly just Jenny!
Started singing at 2 (I think), started writing songs around 19, started playing guitar around 20. Now I do all three simultaneously! I also dabble at the piano. Am saving for a mac so I can record some new music soon! I also do the "worship leader" thing at my church--The Underground--UG-3.com in Asheville, NC. Come check it out if you love God but hate church. You might dig it.

I am glad to hear that Andrew is doing better, and is even able to swing a club (sometimes those kinds of motions are awkward for long periods of time after accidents). Wow, it seems everyone is off doing fun and exciting things with their lives. I am just enduring the usual grind of grad school, using Myspace checking as a way to procrastinate on my recently assignment papers on a Friday night....fun, huh?
Yes, yes, I am an odd duck, aren't I? Indeed, not only does perseverance build character, it has the tendency--as you rather astutely pointed out--to teach us valuable life lessons. Moreover, I share your optimism for my future, I shall continue to endure my situation--which could be termed "hardship" in hyperbole. [Okay, maybe that last little bit was overly crafted, but I do generally think, write, and speak this way...I'm such a nerd!"] I am pleased to hear that you and Andrew are doing well, save some of A's lingering injury issues. Isn't having your own place fun? I like it. I am actually looking at buying a house of mine own, though I am fairly certain I don't have enough money to make the down payment. Ooh, dogsitting is likewise rather enjoyable. I don't currently have a dog, but I do go to my folks' place about once a week, so I get to see my old dog on a regular basis, which is nice. Do Michelle and Rachel still live in Asheville? How is the big city treating them? Please send my regards when the opportunity arises. They were both, along with the entire Smith and Watson clans, so hospitable to Alex and myself during the wedding festivities. Well, thanks for the compliment of Alex and myself. As luck would have it, Alex and I are my favorite of his friends, too. :) Just kidding, actually, you are my favorite! I was always a bit remorseful that we didn't get to hang out and talk more...in part because I like to get to know my friends' significant others; in part because you seem like a very hip lady. Take care and send Andrew my best.
Hey Jenny! I am doing alright. Been better; been worse. I am enjoying myself out here in Colorado with my grad school stuff. My classes aren't as good this semester as last, but I am playing in a jazz group this semester and starting to get some gigs as a result (which is nice). It is likewise nice to be near my family and some of my old friends, but I miss all of you North Carolinians and don't have everything in my life the way I would like. Still, no complaints; I am sure things will be made perfect when God so ordains. How are things with you and the mister?
Hey Jenny, Love the music! Thanks for the add. Feel free to come by and check out my music and chat! We should play a show together sometime. --Millie P.S. Come by and download “Silent Night” on my myspace page for FREE for your holiday listening enjoyment.
hey - seriously not trying to be a cling on - but if you don't have anything to do tommorow (Fri.) night I was thinking of going to the Westville Pub or Jack of the Wood. Let me know, and thanks again for dinner - it was super yummy!
I hope you are doing well out there in the boonies. hahaha. It was great seeing you at Ryan's wedding. By the way, Matti and I are engaged so I hope to see you at ours. I will keep you posted.
Hmmm. Probably before I moved, which has been just over 2 years ago now. I played there with Andy a couple of times when they were at their old location, so that's been probably over 5 years ago! They are wonderful people there and I really miss it!
Jenny, we love you at the Encouraging Cup. Nathan says HEY and thanks for adding his band. Please come out and see them, they need your support. Blessings! TS
