| About Jen Schwartz |
|
Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Jen Schwartz started her music career as a child, strumming a tennis racket in the living room while lip-synching to Blondie songs. At the tender age of 11, Jen skipped recess to sneak into the school band room to teach herself how to play the drums. Her talents were undeniable, and when teachers and students heard her play, she was immediately enrolled in her school's concert and jazz bands. Over the years, Jen won numerous awards for her drumming from such esteemed institutions as Berkeley College of Music and the International Association for Jazz Education.
Upon graduating from high school, Jen went on to Mount Holyoke College in her home town of South Hadley, Massachusetts. She began to teach herself how to play guitar and studied electo-acoustic music (music concrete, recording composition, etc.). She recorded what were to become demos for her debut album as class projects.
Completing her college education, Jen bounced around from city to city, searching for the right musical atmosphere. She worked in clubs in New York as "D.J. Ramapage" and then moved to San Francisco in 1997 where her debut album "Candy From A Stranger" began to take shape. Recording was completed in 2000, and the album was released to much acclaim in May of that year. A successful college radio campaign saw Jen surpassing the likes of Patti Smith and Reverend Horton Heat in certain charts across the U.S.
In 2001, Jen was recruited to play drums for the infamous dyke punk rock band Tribe 8. She toured and recorded a yet-to-be released E.P. with Tribe 8. In 2002, Jen saw a dream come true by opening for her long-time favorites Siouxsie and the Banshees at San Francisco’s world-famous Fillmore and Warfield concert halls. Tribe 8 went into performance semi-retirement in 2004, and Jen moved to Los Angeles soon thereafter. Today, she manages the band.
Jen is currently building a recording studio that will become the epicenter of Rampage Productions. Construction is slated for completion by the end of the year. Once that mammoth project is complete, Jen will get right back to writing and recording her second solo album, due for release in 2009.
