Influences
Jeremy has been deeply influenced by John Coltrane and Stevie Wonder... Cannonball Adderley and Jamiroquai... Kenny Garrett and Jill Scott... Courtney Pine and Erykah Badu... Maceo Parker and Earth, Wind & Fire... Herbie Hancock and Hong Kong Phooey... Jan Garbarek and John Farnham (just checking if you're even reading this!)... Tower of Power and Zero 7... the list goes on of vintage and contemporary artists... oh - and of course - the Mysterious Cities of Gold!
Jeremy Diffey has been playing a wide range of instruments for over 20 years, and has been performing for large audiences for at least 15 of those years.
He plays saxophones, clarinets and flutes, EWI, as well as keyboards, vocals, guitar and percussion.
In the last few years he has honed his skills in both performance and composition, and the current band he is performing with showcases his original works in a small group setting. His arrangements and/or original compositions have been performed by the Darryl McKenzie Jazz Orchestra, the Royal Australia Air Force band, the Matt Amy Really Big Band, on The Singing Bee (Australia) and by a huge number of singers and instrumentalists worldwide.
Drawing from influences ranging from Coltrane and Adderley, to Stevie Wonder, Kenny Garrett and Courtney Pine, his music takes modern jazz and gives it a distinctive groove.
He has a number of projects on the go at the moment... Whether it's writing for his original jazz/funk project (the Jeremy Diffey Quintet) or any number of singers and musicians around the world, or performing as his alter-ego "Pierre Smirnoff" (from swing band Pierre Smirnoff & The Dirty Martinis) he always brings a distinctive groove and vitality to his music.
Jeremy is the saxophonist on the hit Channel 9 game show, The Singing Bee.
Have a listen to a couple of his original works, and you'll be wanting to hear more! His debut album "The Jeremy Diffey Quintet - Groovin' Live" (Ubergroove) will be released in stores soon.
