A word from Martin Jones, music editor with Australia’s leading roots magazine Rhythms- “Jeremy Edwards and the Dust Radio Band play soulful, country rock that few bands in this country are capable of”.
Jeremy Edwards and the Dust Radio Band are an original, five piece outfit steeped in roots, blues and country and are a formidable live band boasting members ex and current of Don Walker, Red Rivers, Steve Prestwich, The Detonators, Pete Cornelius and the Devilles and others. Jeremy Edwards has himself toured with John Hammond Jnr and Charlie Musselwhite and shared stage with Jeff Lang, Diesel, Matt Walker, Cyndi Boste and
more.
Live, the band can move seamlessly from wicked Stonesish romp into ethereal, lap-steel drenched ballads to swampy gospel and make it work.
Edwards pulls inspiration from songwriters such as Steve Earle, Neil Young, Buddy Miller and Sheryl Crow and his own songs bare that same ‘timeless’ feel.
His writing recently attracted the attention of legendary country producer Garth Porter who chose Jeremy and his album for the Garth Porter Producer Award at the 2006 Musicoz Awards held at the Enmore Theatre. The band has just been nominated as Top 5 Finalists for roots acts in the the 2007 MusicOz Awards.
ABC’s Oztrax also chose Jeremy as feature artist with debut album Wires’ opening song ‘My old man’. Strong support of the band has also come via JJJ’s ‘Roots and All’, Melbourne’s 3PBS and RRR stations.
ABC's online digital radio DIG has also added three tracks from Stay Hungry to their playlist.
Rhythms magazine writer Martin Jones said of the album “Jeremy Edwards is not the first to relive the sonic spirit of his American heroes but does more success and style than most of his peers. Wires is one of my favourite Australian roots releases of the last few years. ”. Praise also from Music Journal Nashville - “Fierce lyrics, cool guitar audio pleasure”. The same publication called Edwards’ vocal “searing, raw and passionate…an artist pouring his soul into his work”.
The combination of this approach with the soulful, country twang of second vocalist Julieanne Henry is a feature point of the band. Swapping lead vocal duties effortlessly and drifting between classic ‘high lonesome’ harmonies and salacious blues, the dynamic between the two offers the audience a greatly entertaining and varied performance.
The band also boasts the twin guitar attack of Edwards and electric/lap-steel guitarist Roy Payne. The interplay between the two creates a melting pot of hot country, raucous blues and Keith Richards style riffing. Counterpoint to the guitar work comes the pulse of one of the country’s finest rhythm sections. From hot swing to grinding R n’ B and fierce boogie, drummer George Brugmans and upright/electric bassist Ben Edwards lay down passionate, melodic groove behind the front line.
Introducing Jeremy Edwards and the Dust Radio Band.. ‘Dirty twang to swampy gospel
and southern rock n’ roll from the heart’.
