Dave Loewen - drums, percussion, sheer mixing genius
Influences
A nagging sense of destiny, the sorrow of apathy, injustice, poverty, and Rave potato chips. Musically speaking: Our Lady Peace, Mutemath, The Arcade Fire, Switchfoot, Radiohead, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Formed in late 2007-early 2008, Jeremy Melodic enters the Greater Vancouver rock music scene fresh off the heels of its official entry into the Vancouver Seeds 2008 contest. Frontman Matt Nielsen and drummer Dave Loewen's first musical collaboration happened in the form of a college project about the mystic St. Francis of Assisi. They both wore burlap sacs, and Matt danced and sang like a troubadour who could care less what people thought. What group could survive such humiliating beginnings? After college, they both went on to other ventures. But a twist of fate and the digital means of online advertising for musicians mysteriously brought them back together, and they have collaborated since mid-2007, looking for the right pieces to form a group, and in the meantime recording a 3-song demo as they continued their search. Believing they possessed the skills and the passion to go places in the music industry, they’re still looking for that elusive melodic bassist to round out the trio. Slipping their entry in at the deadline, these guys wanted to test the waters of the local rock talent and gauge their skills against other up-and-coming bands. It turns out they measure up just fine – out of hundreds of entries, the boys of Jeremy Melodic made the top 20. Unfortunately for them, that’s as far as it went. The boys aren’t disappointed, though, as they wanted the people to decide, and so they refused to try to doctor the voting process by shameless self-promotion to anyone they knew with a heartbeat (don't most people hate that stuff?). Turns out the lot fell otherwise. The boys understand that Vancouver's own 99.3 The FOX may very well be a great jumpstart, but nothing can replace a solid fanbase.
Jeremy Melodic has entered into a recording phase once again, and fans can expect to hear the 6 song EP (title TBA) in mid 2009. The boys plan to use the EP as a tool to meet three important criteria in their development: representation in the industry, discovering a worthy producer, and to seek out and court prospective record labels. Their focus will continue to be driven by stirring melodies, driven rock guitars and pounding grooves. Additionally, a bass player has been discovered who looks to be a promising fit. This player's ability will be featured on the EP, so look for a big announcement in the future about rounding out the trio.
The boys of Jeremy Melodic invite you to take a look at what they have to offer. Look for something that sounds accessible, with solid rock elements, but feels different. Look for intentional songs and unforgettable melodies. Look for Jeremy Melodic to break onto the scene with power, presence, and skill that make you want to here more.
