I am a composer/performer that experiments with acoustic and electroacoustic concert music. Some of my music is strictly notated, and some requires varying degrees of improvisation. I received my B.M. in music composition/piano from the University of Louisville, studying privately with Fred Speck, Marc Satterwhite, and Steve Rouse. In 2007, I completed the Grawemeyer Fellowship in music composition (M.M.) at the University of Louisville with Steve Rouse and John Gibson as my mentors.
Upon completion of my masters degree, I taught Music Theory/Aural Skills and private composition lessons at the University of Louisville. My teaching experience helped to spark an interest in pre-collegiate composition instruction, and I am currently teaching after-school composition programs in a few Louisville, KY-area public high schools. In August of 2009, I will begin the Jacobs School of Music Doctoral Fellowship (D.M.) at Indiana University.
I am also the founder/singer/songwriter/guitarist for the psychedelic/indie rock band The Pennies. Having shared the stages with the likes of My Morning Jacket, Mike Watt, The Grifters, Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, and the Apples in Stereo, The Pennies have entertained audiences all over the country and in Europe. Our complete discography includes the self-titled 7” EP, Decorate the Atomic Art four song CD, Come, We Go debut album/CD, and 10,000 Things ten song CD, as well as several compilation releases.
