Interests

  • General

I love to live...I love to hang out with friends and get crazy or just sit and veg together...I love to dance...I love to go to concerts...I love to work-out, jog, hike...I love to sing...I love to read...I love to just sit around and do nothing... Actually, this probably describes me best (strangely enought) -->
    You Are Surrealism
Dreamy and idealistic, you've created a world that is all your own.
It's very likely that you've either dabbled in drugs or are naturally trippy.
You are always trying to push beyond the boundaries of your culture and society.
You believe that art, love, and freedom can change the world.
  • Music

I simply love music! All of it...well, MOST of it. If you were to look in my iTunes, you'd find Broadway shows mixed with Eminem, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, Thamusement, and tons of classical music. As far as classical goes, I love opera (Renee' Fleming, Franco Corelli), symphony (John Corigliano's work is amazing), the Kronos Quartet, contemporary music like John Adams, Ned Rorem, and many more. I love to listen to music and to talk about it, so if you do to, don't hesitate to leave a message.
  • Movies

Recently loved "Death at a Funeral" and "Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay" YES...I Know...
  • Television

Don't really do TV that much anymore. But on occasion I get sucked into a new show here and there...recently I watched all of LOST, WEEDS, and GREEK (my guilty pleasure of the summer!)
  • Books

I read a great deal of non-fiction...love a good biography or autobiography I teach, so they usually have something to do with Musical Theatre, although not always! I enjoy Augusten Burroghs, David Sedaris, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, etc. I also enjoy Paul Coelho ("The Alchemist" - READ IT!), Michael Cunningham ("The Hours" and "Home at the End of the World"), etc. I'm currently reading "Jitterbug Perfume" by Tom Robbins

Question for you - do you remember that video we watched in Musical Theatre class of a woman's vocal folds singing legit and belting? We were watching something similar today in my Vocal Tech class. I mentioned that video, and my teacher was really interested in it. I know it's old, though, so I don't know if it's still around...

PS You'd like the video - "The Zen of Screaming"

The cast was phenomenal - Andrea Martin as Madame Dilly was absolutely hilarious! - Reminded my classmates and I of one of our teachers here if she was flooded with alcohol. All the guys were great, as was Jennifer Laura Thompson (killer soprano - her high notes were gorgeous with all of her crazy choreography), and I adored Leslie Kritzer singing "Come Up to My Place". They also did really interesting things with the blocking since they had to carry scripts. But it was all really phenomenal. And most of the choreography was taken from the origonal show! This is now going on the list of my top favorite shows.

By the way, how are things? I don't think I got a chance to ask earlier but how did Seussical go?
