writing...uh, is there anything else? Animals, cooking (but not at the same time), reading, music, staring off into the distance, and obsessing over pro football (especially the Baltimore Ravens).

Wicked Game is now in mass-market paperback
Hi! I’m Jeri Smith-Ready, award-winning author of romantic urban fantasy. (Did that sound cheesy? I mean, my name is up there on the profile, but it felt rude not to introduce myself here.)
I'm very excited about my new vampire series from Pocket Books, which began May 13 with Wicked Game:
A novel of sex, blood, and rock 'n' roll
Recovering con artist Ciara Griffin tries to redeem herself by saving a vampire radio station from corporate takeover—a matter of life and un-death for her new friends, including hot-and-cool grunge DJ Shane McAllister. But when she boosts ratings by turning their vampiric natures into a marketing gimmick, the ensuing publicity has unintended—and deadly—consequences.
Welcome back! You can preorder Wicked Game from Mysterious Galaxy, the world’s greatest bookstore, where all True FriendsTM shop, and where you’re likely to get an autographed copy, or you can preorder from Amazon.
Here's a condensed playlist for Wicked Game:
I also write the award-winning Aspect of Crow fantasy series, set in a world where everyone has magic according to their Guardian Spirit—sort of X-Men meets Clan of the Cave Bear. Charles de Lint called Eyes of Crow "an absolutely delightful coming-of-age novel," which will keep me happy 'til the day I die. The sequel, Voice of Crow, just came out in October 2007, and the trilogy will conclude with The Reawakened this November.
Take a personality quiz to find out which Animal from the book you'd be. Make your friends and family take it—are you compatible, or do you fight like Cougars and Wolves? Send me your results to enter a monthly prize drawing.
My first novel was Requiem for the Devil, an urban fantasy about the Devil falling in love. It takes place in modern-day Washington, D.C., where Lucifer masquerades as a political consultant. (Not really a fantasy, I know.)
To keep my head in the real world, I foster not-so-magical shelter dogs and puppies for an animal rescue organization called Tails of Hope Sanctuary. You should send them money, or at least really nice thoughts.

Bad To The Bone is coming May 19!
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone who loves books, music, vampires, animals, the NFL, or any combination thereof. If you wrote a book about a vampire football team with musical mascots—or a song about a vampire football team with mascots who form letters with their bodies—I’ll make you a Top Friend for sure. Then I’ll have you committed.
As mentioned above, I want to meet bands and do my small part to help independent musicians find exposure, in the spirit of Wicked Game. Together, we can change the world (or at least show it a good time).
Just finished Bad to the Bone. Loved it!!! I am so glad that WVMP Radio has been picked up for more books! I can't get enough of Ciara and the DJ's (and of course everyone else as well).
Thanks for the playlist link! I actually have a number of those CDs--and after looking at your favorite books and movies, I'm thinking we could've been related in a different lifetime (in a completely non-creepy, non "Single While Female" way). Except, I rescue cats and you rescue dogs, and I watch basketball and you watch football...and now I *am* sounding creepy so I'll stop now. Have fun with the writing!
Thanks for accepting the request. If you have any short stories, poems, or works of art that tantalize the mind with horror and send the priests running for their holy books, then send them our way. Deadline for submissions is July 30. Check our homepage and blog for more information.
Just finished "Bad to the Bone" and it was AWESOME! It's so cool to know someone else who appreciates 90's Hole (which sounds slightly wrong when I say it like that but, oh well). I'm pretty sure I drove my friends crazy in high school making them listen to "Live Through This" a million times. Not to mention L7, Bif Naked and a host of other angry singing girrls. Keep up the good work!
Thank you YOU ROCK as well... literally (literally) lol wow Im tired.... but I hope that made some sort of sense?? lol Yes enjoying Shanes story will be back to finish it up and move on to the other 3!! love the back stories!! Take care!!
Hi, Jeri! Wicked Game is not only one of my all-time favorite horror novels! Can't wait to read the sequel, Bad to the Bone! Looking forward to reading your new vampire novel after it comes out on May 19.
Hmmm, a vampire Baltimore Ravens football player...sounds cool. He'd be a great wide receiver for Ravens night games with his vampire super speed & strength.
My favorite Nirvana songs are Lithium, heart-shaped box and come as you are. Not particularly in that order...wait actually, yes in exactly that order matter of fact. Also I finished the book Monday and I meant to say I love the OCD theme. As an obsessive compulsive myself, my friends called me Monk (like the show) in college lol it was well written. I know all about all day, night time rituals, re-washing hands up to the elbow cause it just didn't feel right the first 2 times. And Shane would be inspired by my cds and books. Genre, alphabetical and tah-dah...Gender. Eat your heart out Shane *cracks up* so I found the ocd theme hilarious to read out.
Oh and also ANYONE who mentions nirvana songs in their book more than once and its not just smells like teen spirit, is GOLDEN to me. Grunge is not dead and 90's rocked! Kurt Cobain was a music demi-god. So that alone should have made me read wicked game sooner.
Do you ever feel like a complete moron for putting off reading that ends up being one of the greats? I do right now. I just started wicked game I knew I had to read it but I am always lazy about starting a new series. Its getting up the energy to invest in getting to know the people. But wow you described the feeling of hearing a hauntingly good song. The tingling all over, you start feeling like its pulling you out of your body and your heart pounds. And just like that...I was there and hooked on the story. You have away of making me hang on every word. I am mad that I waited this long to start. :( I am a moron. Lol Casse.
