While you are reading this information, chances are you're hearing some of my Music at the same moment. the Brain is such a wonder, processing and digesting all that we encounter. Songs, from this Songwriter's point of view anyway, begin with Musical Landscapes offering the Poignant Attitudes of Poetry a broad Canvas for the Color and Shading the complexities of Emotion requires.
the Style of what you might be hearing on My Juke Box may range from an Acoustic Ballad to a Bluesy Brawling BarSong, with Sax Splattered Jazz or Slow Country to Spoken Word with Music. these half dozen Songs are examples from my Three full length CD's recorded from 2001 - 2004. THE ASCENDING MASQUERADE, PRELUDE TO APOCALYPSE, and NAKED. these Songs were recorded in Kansas City and the first two CD's mastered in New York.
the 'The Ascending Masquerade' is a Poem written to accompany a Painting by my Son Jeremiah Dowell, is on the CD cover and is in the Art Section. the record features Kansas City's Kyle Tomes on Drums & Banjo, Kenny Glover on Sax, Denny Osburn; Organ, Piano, Mandolin, Lap Steel and Strings, Bass Players, Robb Eaton and Paul Greenlease.
the F5 Magazine in Wichita KS says of 'The Ascending Masquerade'; "Jerry Dowell, a unique voice in the wilderness, a talented songwriter and singer who commits himself fully to whatever path he sets foot upon with his well-traveled voice and worn but feisty guitar."
EKC Kansas City News and Entertainment Magazine says; "Dowell has real talent across a spectrum of music genres. . . This CD is a Keeper."
the second CD 'Prelude to Apocalypse' is another record of Country Songs and Blues as well, F5 Mag in Wichita says; Although Dowell doesn't stand alone in his stylistic diversity, he's one of a not overly large circle of artist whose ability to transverse nearly the whole spectrum of popular American music in the course of a single album and do it with authenticity and depth seems improbable."
the Pitch Weekly Magazine in Kansas City says; "On Prelude, his second disk, Dowell veers from honky-tonk to loop-driven percussive funk to sax-driven free jazz to doo-wop balladry, treating each genre with respect. . . his rugged, weather-beaten vocals and literate lyrics(The evil that I see/is the conflict that I find inside of me) communicate the same appealing personality regardless of their backdrop."
the Pitch Weekly once again were very kind in their assessment of my third disc, 'Naked' an Acoustic Guitar and vocal record with Guest Artist Guitarist Doug Bennett; "Dowell's first two records were ostentatiously eclectic, veering from boozy blues stomps to sax-splattered jazz. On Naked, he draws a straight line from Springsteens's Nebraska to the Eagles' Hotel California, cruising rustic westward roads as tumbleweeds somersault to his rhythmic strums and artfully eroded vocals. The only ornate accent is his harmonica, which flashes like a speck of gold in a dust storm. . . . He's an authentic outlaw without affectation."
i will also be loading songs on the Juke Box that are Demos, as well as Poetry on the Blog section from my book 'The Art of Living and Dying' and other Poems and Song Lyrics also. more information at www.jerrydowellband.com any parties interested in purchasing the book or CD's please send me a message and we can work out the details, thank you. . . ~ j.
