I love to travel. I've hiked through the Peruvian Andes to Machu Picchu, been SCUBA diving with sharks in Tahiti and on a photo safari to Kenya.
The cities I like best are Chicago (of course), London, Toronto and San Francisco.
Music
I mostly like girl singers and hard rock.
My favorite artists include The Ramones, Rush, Warren Zevon, Jill Sobule, Sean Wiggins, The Locals, Ripley Caine and Cyndi Lauper. I also like Dar Williams, Bree Sharp, The Dandy Warhols, The Donnas, Aimee Mann, Lisa Loeb, The Dixie Chicks and The Dead Kennedys.
Todd Snider is neither hard rock nor a girl, but I love his music none the less.
I also like classical and some opera. How cool is the "Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" by Queen of the Night from "The Magic Flute"?
Jazz need not apply.
Movies
I'm a big fan of the work of Stanley Kubrick. I also enjoy films by Terry Gilliam, The Coen Brothers, early Mel Brooks and Ridley Scott.
Oliver Stone and Robert Altman leave me flat.
Some of my favorite films include 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Fail Safe, Dr. Strangelove, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, The Time Machine, Mysterious Island, War of the Worlds (1953), Jason and the Argonauts, 20 Million Miles to Earth, It Came from Beneath the Sea, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Fanstastic Voyage and all four Alien movies.
I thought Aeon Flux was great and got totally overlooked.
In case you think I only watch science fiction and fantasy, I also like Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Time Bandits, 12 Monkeys, The Exorcist, The Craft, Strange Brew, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, History of the World Part I.
Television
I have a love affair with cancelled TV shows.
My favorites are The X-Files, Millennium, The Lone Gunmen, The Tick (animated and live-action), Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dead Like Me, and Wonderfalls.
As a child I was an Irwin Allen junkie, hooked on Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants.
Books
I read mostly science fiction. I love the work of Nancy Kress, Orson Scott Card and Harlan Ellison. Sir Arthur C. Clarke was one of my boyhood heroes. I enjoy Larry Niven, Joe Haldeman, Ray Bradbury and Neil Gaiman, too.
I've read most of Hunter S. Thompson's work, too. (I must read Hell's Angels!)
Heroes
For various reasons: Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Arthur C. Clarke, Richard Feynman, Hunter S. Thompson, The Dixie Chicks, Russ Feingold.

Who I'd like to meet: Dar Williams because she seems really smart and funny. Oddly enough, I'd also like to meet Uma Thurman and Pamela Anderson for the exact same reasons.
I'd like to meet Arthur C. Clarke to thank him for capturing my imagination with his work. It has enhanced my life in many ways.
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!
There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.
Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."
And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:
“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.” —Famous Monsters of Filmland
“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes

Did you watch the debate? Are you as irritated as I am? Lets take a survey via a show of hands...ok, so everyone is irritated except John McCain. Oh, no, wait...he cant raise his hands. I forgot. He's such a maverick.
