About me: My name is Jerry Perna. I'm a professional actor/coach/playwright/singer of some 30 years experience. A graduate of the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, my appearances include everything from films, music video & national commercial spots to over 75 appearances on stages across the US, in Canada and Eastern Europe. Currently, I'm always searching for a CREATIVE HOME...and sometimes, it's not about physical locale! And a home for my original play-with-adapted music SEVEN MEN FROM NOW...more on 7 Men below...
Among my most recent projects are the musical-fantasy film, Dylan Steinberg's THOMAS ROSENBOW AND A MILLION POUNDS...A LONELY LIGHT: THE IBSEN PROJECT, part of the 2009 Philly Live Arts Festival...David Crowley's film adaptation of Anton Checkov's THE SEAGULL(I'm playing TRIGORIN and the latest production of my '60's 'fever dream with music', SEVEN MEN FROM NOW!
About SEVEN MEN FROM NOW...it is based on the existential image of a Lone Telephone Lineman immortalized in Jimmy Webb's iconic 1968 song "Wichita Lineman" (voted by MOJO magazine as 'The Greatest Song Ever Written')Four angels in human female guise lead one man on a musical fever-dream---a journey through the collective pop-culture memory of 'The Other '60's'---featuring, not only, the magnificent songbooks of BURT BACHARACH, JIMMY WEBB & BRIAN WILSON, but the work of Serge Gainsbourge, Iggy Pop & The Stooges and The Maestro Ennio Morricone...
A Male Museum curated by four female angels---showing us the roles men play throughout a lifetime---father, lover, son, soldier, cowboy, enemy & friend and how the road to Transcendence leads to a really awesome pop song!!
SEVEN MEN FROM NOW just might be that midnight show for your Black Box/Studio Theatre, or, the perfect touring project for ages 16-and-up. Only 75-minutes, sans intermission, a serio-comic play with Five Performers (4 women, 1 man), one set, with enough Kitschy imagery to provide a Thrift-Shop field day for any design team! So, keep reading this profile for more updates! And, in the meantime, check out the slide show, my resume-blogs, a video of my film work, and, if you'd like an actor, acting coach for theatre or 'on-set', or, a theatre director ANYWHERE IN THE KNOWN (or unknown!)WORLD be sure to contact me.
