or you can always just leave me a comment or message me on here. i'm online too much for my own good. i have a gazillion blogs/diaries; i'm not hard to stalk find. i'm friendly.
stevie nicks, pat benatar, the soundtracks to "Grease 2", "RENT" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", christina aguilera, taking back sunday, mariah carey, kelly clarkson, tori amos, jimmy eat world, sarah mclachlan, fall out boy, howie day, thursday, evanescence, mary j. blige, aretha franklin, etta james, anyone whose songs i've sung at karaoke night (hehehe)...and more!
basically, anything i listen to, i take a piece of and absorb it and learn from it.
YOU influence me and inspire me. yes, you.
Sounds Like
"hip-hop, smoothed out on the r&b tip, with a pop feel, appeal to it" - bell biv devoe
"you out-kellied kelly clarkson!" - a karaoke host in san diego
"just off the key of reason" - fall out boy
"i sing because i'm happy" - from the song "his eye is on the sparrow"
"you've got the music in you/don't let go/you've got the music in you/one dance left" - new radicals
in other words...it sounds like me and my love of music.
if you've come across this, then you most likely know me. and since so many of you are people i've known online forever, most of you know that music is my life. singing is my passion. you've wanted to hear what i sound like, so...here you go!
ABOUT ME:(for the unfortunate randoms who stumble upon this page)
i'm a 32 year old (on 7/31) recovering choir nerd from new jersey, who moved to san diego in april 2006. i grew up singing commercial jingles around the house ("ask any mermaid you happen to see -- what's the best tuna? chicken of the sea!"), and idolizing my sister, who is 10 years older than i am. therefore, i grew up listening to fleetwood mac/stevie nicks, CSN, the go-gos, etc., as well as all the pop/new wave of the 80s. in middle school and high school, i can pretty much guarantee i was the only girl in basking ridge, nj, watching Yo! MTV Raps and Video Music Box after school (oh, how i miss those shows!). i love hip hop (old and new, though a lot of the new stuff sucks right now, IMHO), emo/screamo and pop-punk (taking back sunday, thursday, jimmy eat world, fall out boy, etc.), howie day, tori amos, toad the wet sprocket, kelly clarkson, mariah carey, death cab for cutie, worth every scar and a scribe amidst the lions (great local bands! xoxox), motown, old country, showtunes...basically everything. i'm not an elitist by any means. i'll listen to anything with a beat and a melody and harmony that attacks my heart and makes me feel something again.
music snobs can rot in hell ♥
finally, i'm starting work on my own music. thanks to MAGIX, the music-making program that i got my wonderful boyfriend for christmas, i've been able to start arranging some songs. i'm always writing lyrics and poetry. i've got a kick-ass yamaha keyboard that doesn't get nearly enough use, because my piano skills are terribly lacking. i have an acoustic and an electric guitar - neither of which i know how to play. my instrumental skills in general are lacking. wanna help? will you be patient and kind and not make fun of me or call me a poser? then you are the teacher/mentor/collaborator i'm looking for.
but for now, i'm a karaoke diva. and i'm having fun with that. i can be found pretty much every week (either thursday/friday/saturday, or all three) at Gilly's(formerly known as the Second Wind) in lovely North Park, San Diego.you should come by. no, really, you should. the singers kick ass, seriously. it's more entertaining than painful. and the people there are supernice. sonya, the karaoke hostess with the mostest, is a doll, as are all the regulars (you know who you are, and i love you guys)! come down and if you see me, say hi! i love making new friends. ♥
