Influences
Jersey Street are influenced by a wide variety of music from classic soul, jazz and latin through to the modern club sounds of r'n'b and house. A random list from the band members include D'Angelo, Gregory Isaacs, Mary J Blige, Masters at Work, Earth Wind and Fire,George Duke, Sly and the Family Stone, Jaco Pastorius, Fela Kuti, Roy Ayers, Antonio Carlos Jobim, The Roots, Bill Evans, Prince.
Sounds Like
The new material references the soul/jazz territory explored by 70's acts such as Rotary Connection and Terry Callier with orchestrated strings and brass. Other tracks have a more straight ahead funk and latin vibe while the house excursions are usually placed in the camp of Joe Claussel, Ashley Beedle, Blaze, Osunlade etc.
Jersey Street have been releasing records for over 8 years. Initially identified as falling into the camp of organic deep house, they have diversified into playing a wide range of styles including soul, jazz, afro-funk and latin. Their first releases were on seminal UK house label J.B.O. before going on to record two albums "Step Into The light" and "After The Rain' for Glasgow Underground. They've recorded, produced and licensed tracks for some of the finest underground labels in the world, including Yellow Productions, Out of the Loop, Mr.Bongo, Naked, Hed Kandi and Defected. The last couple of years have been quiet as various band members have pursued solo projects, session work, soundtracks etc. Two well received EPs went out on Electric Chair/PIAS in 2004/5, the label started up by Manchester's hottest and most enduring underground club night. Jersey Street have been recording new material in which they try to harness the energy of their live band and explore their soul/jazz influences. A lot of the material is on a more straight ahead jazz vibe with horns, live strings and wicked drumming. Available here for you to listen to are three of the new tracks plus a downloadable recording of a track from their first album, recorded live at The Band On the Wall, Manchester in 2003. Jersey St are currently looking for outlets for their new album and are in discussion with various labels.

"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine
