Mom, Joan Armatrading, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Prince, John Popper, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder... I'll add to this as they occur to me.
Sounds Like
Some have likened me to Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Carole King... Apparently (according to just about everyone qualified to make the comparison) I sound a lot like my mother. I've been likened to Janis in personality and passion, but not so much in voice (which is cool ;)).
I was raised in a VW bus by travelling street musicians... that's my one-sentence wrap up. Basically, the music is in my blood. Far be it for me to try to deny it when it decides to come out and play (no pun intended).
First and foremost I am a lyricist/songwriter. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm a performer at heart, but for the musical aspect of things, it's less about performing my music and more about letting it come out and having people hear it. I still haven't decided what my goal is with the music, all I know is that it can't be denied.
These days I'm mostly focused on getting it recorded so that my long-distance friends can hear what it is that I'm talking about and so the people who keep harassing me for my CD will leave me the hell alone! *wink* j/k I love the harassment :-)
Hey Jes,
It was good to see you though I'm so sorry for the reason. Thank you for making me feel a part of the family.
Got a question. Have you seen Gogol Bordello? I just did a few weeks ago and gotta say that they are my new favorite band.
I hope to see ya soon,
Love ya,
Annine
