~Jessan Levou ~ Before he Cheats~
Why stare at a box for countless hours When there is a whole world outside your door
A1, adrenaline, animals, anthropology, anyone who can make me laugh, art, artists, astrology, audio commentaries, Azna, beaches, board games, boating-rather sailboats(the entire idea of being surrounded by water-only you the stars and the sky is truly intoxicating), British anything, card games when I haven't slept, cars (old-only old), camping, caffeine, children, Chinese Kung Fu movies from the 1970s, clouds, Coast to Coast AM, coffee, confusing people, conserving everything from the environment to the times I giggle, comedy clubs, conspiracy theories, cooking, creation, CNN, CSPAN, culture, cultural restaurants (anything not American unless it is a ma and pa place or anything not commercialized), cuddling, cult classics, cycling, dancing, daring, day dreaming before I go to bed, dedication, devotion, dinner parties, dive bars, documentaries, donating my time, dreaming, eating out and then tipping like a superstar, drinking water, electric cars, electric engines (anything that turns a gas powered engine into a clean, efficient, Earth saving, mode of transportation and or fun), entertaining, ESPN, exercise (now what I mean by this is a healthy lifestyle which includes:bat mitten, cycling, golf, roller blading, climbing, frisbee, frisbee golf, golf, hiking, ice skating, martial arts, mountain biking, pilates, scuba diving (when I get my license), skiing, swimming, snorkeling, snowboarding, tennis, twister, walking, yoga), family, FedEx Presents that I order for myself on the internet while sleepy, finding new and interesting places that I have never been to, fire escapes, foggy autumn days, French culture and food, fresh sheets, foreign languages, galleries, gardens, gardening, geeks, giving messages, God (the creator-the encompasser-that thing that created helium and hydrogen), going out, guns (Yes I love guns-why? Becuase it is one of the things that our country was built upon. A freedom that makes us the greatest country in the world, and when we begin to take away our freedoms, we destroy everything that our forefathers fought and died for... okay and they're neat-o)guitars and those who can play guitar far better than myself, hiking, the Himalayas, history, honesty, Indian Food!!!, Japan, Japanese culture, Japanese Food, japanimation and animation, jazz, jokes, knitting, Labrador Puppies, laughing, learning, lingerie, live music, love, lusting, making a special gift for someone I don't know, men (also boys who want to be men) making mixed tapes and receiving mixed tapes (even though no one has given me one in a long, long time, but I keep waiting & yes I keep an tape player on hand just in case someone does make me one some day), museums, music, mountains, nature, nerds, oldies, Om, opera, outdoors, over-sized hoodies, painters, philosophy, photography, physics & quantum mechanics (also the philosophical ideas they propose), piano, picnics in May, pilates, pink shirts on men, pitbull puppies, politics, poetry, profits, proper grammar, puppies in general, randomness, reading, reading blogs, religion, road trips, romance, romantics, samurai culture and history, science, singing, songwriting, soul mates, spirituality, sport bikes, stand-up comics, staying in on a Friday night, sunsets, sunrises in the winter, sushi $ sushi restaurants & making sushi, swimming with all of my clothes on, taking a bath and reading the Sunday paper, tattoos & the entire idea behind tattoos... if you don't know what I'm talking about you never will, tea time and everything that tea time includes (golly I love taking time out of my day for tea), that light you can only see when the sun is not quite up-and an eerie blueness drapes over the landscape for only but a few moments, the smell of: 14 Hour Road Trips, Autumn in Wisconsin, Apple Picking, Baking Pies, Book Stores, Campfires, Chainsaw Carvings, Christmas, Craft Shows, Fabric Softener, Food Cooking in the Kitchen, Guitars, Making Lemonade, Movie Theater Popcorn, New Books, New Sneaks, Puppy's Paws, the impending rain storm in the distance during the summer months, Vintage Shops, Walks in the Winter; Traditional Chinese Medicine, traveling anywhere, vegetables, watching others play video games (sounds crazy right? Think about it-in most sports there are time outs, bathroom breaks, people to rub your legs when they get tired and so on. Not in Nascar. Just two hundred miles of track ... I'm just still trying to figure out what I am supposed to do with all of my 8 clothing...), rugby, soccer(the true "football"), swimming (love the spedos), ultimate fighting) I am a wee bit of a sports junkie, wiggling my toes under the blankets, wine, writing letters and licking the stamp, writing, yoga... Movies
Discovering the World Through Someone Else's Eyes
Some people collect plastic spoons found in obscure tourist destinations who serve the world's largest meatballs, while others scour the Internet for documentaries about the world's most obscure tourist destinations. I am that second kind of person who collects documentaries.
..
Ahh...
the documentry...
I will try to change this often...
The 11th Hour
Please~go and watch this movie.
Alright...
of course I watch movies. I go to at least two a week, and 85% of the time I go alone and watch double features in pgs, while I smuggle in produce (side note about Double Features : bring a pillow) I have countless movies that I love, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Casablanca. However, I can always rely on any documentary and anything from Focus Features, Pixar, Quentin Tarantino, Charlie Kaufman, Darren Aronofsky, Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas, Wes Anderson, David Fincher or anything Roger Ebert recommends(I check his site before I see any movie, and agree 95% of the time).
Television
First off, I am much more of an XM kind of girl.
There is a common belief that television poisons and corrupts young and evolving minds into overweight comatose victims who only love chocolate, but I don't like chocolate so I say it is nonsense.
Ok, so here's the thing.
I don't have a TV.
That's not to say I don't watch anything, for I do. Nonetheless, all of the shows that I do watch I find on DVD. There are many reasons why I don't have a TV, but the main reason is the commercials. I CAN'T watch commercials. I tried TIVO (wonderful invention) for a while, but still had to fast forward through the commercials.
....
Do I miss TV? Sometimes. I mostly miss the news, for I am a true information junkie. CNN, CSPAN and Current. I even miss Fox. I however have found new and interesting ways to acquire my information, free of advertising and subliminal messages designed in order to breed insecurity by way of commercials. Top three favorite shows : Simpsons & Seinfeld, (which BTW you will never understand my sense of humor if you don’t appreciate those classic shows) and Iron Chef Japan. Japan I say! I know I should be putting Arrested Development here in spot three, but there is just something so captivating about that fun little show.
(Don't get me wrong, I would rather be doing something else or reading, but sometimes TV sounds better in the background then music)
...Arrested Development (why on Earth did Fox cancel this show? , Heroes & Prison Break (First Season on both)... The Office, Family Guy, American Dad, (Seth Mcfarland fascinates me), Futurama, The Flinstones, Sex and the City (Even though Carrie is a disgrace for what she did to Aidan: the perfect man), The King of Queens, Star Trek (classic and the next generation), The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, The X Files, Quantum Leap, Roseanne, Lil' Bush, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Tales from the Dark Side/Crypt (I know, I know), The Chappelle Show, Fraiser, The Sopranos, BRAVO Reality Shows (Project Runway & Top Chef), The Dog Whisperer, Murder She Wrote (wow, my grandma loved that show)... The Golden Girls(and that show... the music is hypnotic),Duck Tales & Muppet Babies (where can I buy these on DVD?), The Daily Show, those Charlie Brown Specials, and any other show that I may see about religion, politics, the environment or philosophy.
P.S.
I'm a big Anime/Japanimation(well, basically animation in general to be honest~I really do love adult swim), and I'm an even bigger sports fan(junkie-although I obviously would rather be at an event~hey, I come from Wisconsin: A place where tailgating is a way of life)
Books
I used to receive a whole different array of magazines through the mail, but began to feel extremely guilty about the waste it was producing, so I renewed them on-line! It's a wonderful idea, and I recommend it to everyone who loves Newsweek, Time, the NY Times and the Journal as much as I do. :)
I love all non fiction books concerning the topics of religion, politics, and philosophy(which by the way are the topics you are never supposed to talk about while in a bar, but then again alcohol has a way with opinions), the classics and classical poetry (they just don't write books like they used to), topics concerning human relations and psychology, The Harry Potter Series, Fast Food Nation, Bible Code, The Dao of Pooh, Chinese Traditional Herbal Medicine Volume 1&2,The World Without Us, Intellectual Devotionals, 3,654 Things You Should Have Learned but Probably Didn't, In Defense of Food, The Age of American Unreason, Dictionaries and Thesauruses, The Count of Monte Cristo, Treating Pain with Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chi Gung, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Power of Thought, Thoughts Without a Thinker, History of Pi, Bug, anything written by the Dalai Lama, Jane Austen, Nietzsche, Emily Dickinson, John Keats, Stephen Hawkings, Susan Blackmore, Gary Goldschneider, Scott Cunningham, Sylvia Brown, Miguel Ruiz, Jesus Christ, Richard Dawkins, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Plato, Dante, Walt Whitman, Hemingway, Emily Brontë, Dale Carnegie, T.S. Eliot, Sir Thomas Moore, The Gnostic Gospels, Robert Frost, Tolkien, Aristotle, Oscar Wilde, Leo Tolstoy, Ayn Rand, Homer, Socrates, Al Gore, Terry Brooks, J.D. Salinger, J.M. Nouwem, Arthur Rumbaud, Kenneth Carroll, Cornel West, Mark Twain, E.A Poe, William Butler Yeats, Charles Darwin, Shakespeare...
..
Not in alphabetical order, too!!!
Heroes
Heroes: Just another reason to wake up in the morning.
Sir Thomas Moore, the only man to look into the world and understand how beautiful the idea of equality is.
Dale Carnegie, who's brilliance still amazes me every time I realize what people really want in life.
The 14th Dali Lama, and even though he humbly describes himself as just an ordinary man who is neither important or special, he embodies the characteristics that I am tirelessly working towards in my life to posses.
~I am but a lyricist, who just so happens to sing, play piano/guitar, compose, produce, mix and dance. Nevertheless, I am but a lyricist, living in order to learn...~
The absolute most important thing to remember
when listening to my music is that I have never taken
a class or lesson for any of the instruments or the technical
programs I use. What this translates into is that I have
created it (composition, beats, mixing/arrangement, lyrics
and vocals) entirely by myself in the confines of my own
home, and I used equipment that is not in the least bit
professional and mediocre at best. . With this knowledge,
I believe that the listener can fully appreciate the ingenuity
of this project.
~I am but a lyricist who just so happens to sing, play piano/guitar, compose, produce, mix and dance. Nevertheless, I am but a lyricist, living in order to learn...~
~Biography~
Everyone on this Earth is born with an unbelievable talent to do something special unto only them. A passion that consumes every fabric of their essence until it is finally acknowledged, and mine was not songwriting; it was singing. However, the inevitability from the decision to be active in rebellion had a slight effect of such a blessing. The ability of song writing came only because when my decisions were held prisoner to a cycle of peer pressure, I was forced to experience life in a way that was foreign to me. Describing the life changing situations, sometimes colorful, but most times just plain dangerous, wrong and immaturely foolish became the only outlet I could use to understand them. When I finally freed myself from the illusionary cage I admittedly imprisoned myself within, I was left with a handwritten, tear soaked trail of experiences on random pieces of paper. After carefully sowing together the memories, the songs, and the lifelong passion, I am left with a quilt and the word destiny embroidered upon it.
~Style~
Over the past decade, the style of "pop" has become a social stigma that seams to automatically brand an artist to the classification of a bubble gum chewing, studio singing, over priced dancer. What is popular to the masses is out shadowed by the super elite voices of the few, who refer to such music as artless advertising. I respectfully can understand their point of view, considering all of the scandals and hype which has surrounded a lot of artists in the past, although I must slightly disagree. There are many so called "pop artists" who continue to amaze the general public with not only stunning vocal tracks and ear-sticking beats, but also their ability to accomplish the greatest goal of any musician, which is an unforgettable performance. If my musical production, mixing and composition skills were as accurate as my vision, which frankly they are not, then my style could be described as a mix of pop/urban piano jazz 1, pop/drum&bass seductive chill out 2, angry girl pop/indie rock 3, and raw club style pop 4, for my role models are those who have recreated the pop industry as I know it. The only missing factor is the unforgettable performance 5&6, which I am still vigorously trying to perfect. 1- Alicia Keys 2-Portishead 3-Ani DiFranco 4-Cristina Aguilera 5-Madonna 6-Britney Spears ~~~~~~~~
~Stages of Compassion~
Everyone has written a love song. Everyone. Before writing this album I fully understood this statement, and because of it, I set out to create something completely original that hasn't been done before. More than anything else I am a lyricist, so for my first album I wanted to create a concept piece where each song melted into the next, not only musically like a lot of artists are doing these days, but also lyrically. The style of Stages of Compassion is completely unique not only because of it's lyrical content, but also it's musical flow. Stages of Compassion relays an universal lyrical story of how the emotion of love grows, adapts and changes. Therefore, the specific style of the album's music grows, adapts and changes right along with the lyrics. This allows the listener to actually feel the style of the songs change as the album progresses.
Videos by Jessan Levou will be up by the 1st of March!!!
Who I'd like to meet:
Hieronymus Bosch, and crawl inside of his brush for the evening.
~Tunnel by Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516)~
Honestly though... I am mostly drawn to those who have the gift for symbolism, carefully hidden, that is found within artistic works(paintings, poems, philosophical ideas, stories, songs and so on)
I'm a bit of a romantic like that.
