Jesse Fischer is a keyboard player, composer, and producer living in Brooklyn, NY. Raised in music-minded family, Jesse was exposed to a multitude of traditions, including classical music, folk music from around the world, R&B, jazz, soul, and rock music. Beginning with piano when he was a toddler, and picking up drums, bass, guitar and clarinet soon after, this young multi-instrumentalist began performing professionally by the time he was 15. Growing up in New Jersey, halfway between New York City and Philadelphia, Jesse was especially drawn both to the dirty minimalism of New York hip-hop and the warmth of Philly soul. It is this combination of smooth, luscious harmonies and raw, hard-edged rhythms that define his unique sound as a producer and composer.
Jesse’s warm, laid-back personality, deft technique, expressive soloing, and sensitive ensemble playing have brought him a wealth of work in genres as diverse as jazz, R&B, hip-hop, rock, gospel, and klezmer music. His instantly recognizable sound has been heard in clubs, churches, and concert halls, from New York, L.A., Detroit, and Florida, to Montreal, London, and Nigeria. In recent years, Jesse was honored to appear with Stevie Wonder, Freddie Jackson, Elisabeth Withers, and Little Jackie, among many other artists, and opened for Chaka Khan, the Temptations, the Stylistics, Keith Sweat, Jamie Lidell, Janell Monae, and J*Davey. He is also the bandleader and musical director of Soul Cycle, the jazz-funk group, which took him to the prestigious stages of the Blue Note Jazz Club, the NJPAC Sounds of the City Festival, and the BAM Café (at the Brooklyn Academy of Music). Jesse’s television appearances include Conan O’Brien, Craig Furgeson, 90210, T4 (UK), and Jools Holland (UK).
From childhood's hour I have not been As others were; I have not seen As others saw; I could not bring My passions from a common spring. From the same source I have not taken My sorrow; I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone; And all I loved, I loved alone. Then- in my childhood, in the dawn Of a most stormy life- was drawn From every depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still: From the torrent, or the fountain, From the red cliff of the mountain, From the sun that round me rolled In its autumn tint of gold, From the lightning in the sky As it passed me flying by, From the thunder and the storm, And the cloud that took the form (When the rest of Heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view.
