Jesse Green was born in the parish of St.James, Jamaica in 1948 and moved to Kingston in 1957. Jesse's grandmother, Agatha tried to induct a young Jesse into the family business of grocery sales and deliveries but music was always his real passion.
Leaving his roots in Jamaica behind, Jesse arrived in England in 1965 at the age of 17 years old to join his family and to fulfil his musical dream as a drummer in a band. Quickly teaming up with other musicians, Jesse instructed them how to form the 'Ska' and 'Rocksteady' sounds of the Caribbean and started to delight the audiences of London.
It was here Jesse got his first break playing with the hit Jamaican vocal trio, 'The Pioneers' and scoring a UK chart hit. Jesse's emerging talent as a multi-instrumentalist then led to working with legends such as 'Desmond Dekker' and 'Junior Walker and the All-Stars' in the early 1970's.
It was after returning to England following the 1974 tour with fellow Jamaican 'Jimmy Cliff' which included dates in Lagos, Trinidad and the famous Carnegie Hall in New York that Jesse signed a solo contract and released his first album "Nice and Slow" for EMI.
"Nice and Slow", the title track for the album was a hit single and shot to No.1 on the US Billboard Disco chart. An appearance on 'Top of the Pops' in 1976 helped the single reach No.15 in the UK Top-40. It was in the clubs of Europe though where the disco scene was just emerging that "Nice and Slow" became a major hit and resulted in Jesse Green topping the charts in Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland, France and Germany notching up over 3 million record sales.
Jesse's live performances were always popular and as a result, was invited to play the Diamond Awards Music Festival in 1993, 1996 and 1998 where he shared billing with other legends of music including James Brown.
