    ..Jesse Poe.., singer/songwriter of ..Tanakh.., has for years produced a consistent catalogue of lush pop/folk songs tinged with middle-eastern drones, bluesy rhythms, and experimentation. Reviews from The Wire have placed him somewhere between ..Alice Coltrane.. and ..Nick Drake.., whereas the pens of Pitchfork have hailed him as a son of ..Leonard Cohen.., ..Towns Van Zandt.., or ..Neil Young... After five full length records, various compilations and guest appearances, he has crafted a solo performance, which brings the same warmth and breadth of sound as his records in the tight package of a one-man show, or duo. Performing songs, which span from his first record to his sixth (a solo album and book to be released this spring) acoustically and through electric sound creation. With only a guitar, a mixer and some pedals, he produces a show both intimate and yet fully realized, giving each song all of the essential sounds necessary to create a dreamscape for his warm voice and twisted guitar..... When joined by guitarist ..Cosimo Santi.., this mix becomes even more beautiful, as Santi interlaces his rhythmic soloing approach to Poe’s songwriting, making the songs spring to life in new ways, cupping its melodies around each song in a unique way, and allowing Poe to go further out in the realms of experimentation creating an even larger blanket of sounds and emotion. This duo brings to life the works of Poe and other songwriters in unique and inventive ways, which sound full and lush like all of the Tanakh records, but presents them in more tactile, fleshy ways..... Over the years Poe has given only occasional solo concerts, short solo sets within the context of a full band performances and only one solo tour (with ..Alistair Roberts.. in 2002), but each of these concerts have been a well received highlight and intimate look at this songwriter’s performing talents, merging his own songs into covers of country classics, forgotten soul or pop-treasures, and then out again into his own work and straight-up improv, taking requests from the audience and delivering these songs like they were written by his own hand..... Poe (currently residing in Florence, Italy) has now hand-crafted a solo show (or in a duo) which span from one to two hours of flowing sound and style, that highlights the best of his work and a few of his heroes to boot, and is carrying this show to every nook, cranny, borgo, and city throughout Europe and the UK this spring and then back home to the US..... In the last six or so years this revolving collective has included a large number of musicians headed up by principle songwriter ..Jesse Poe... Although currently residing in Florence, Italy, Poe comes from a background of American rural music. His great-grandfather wrote country ballads and his great aunts and uncle had a live radio program broadcast out of Indiana. Besides his work as Tanakh, Poe produced/engineered for ..Jim White.., ..Pelt.., ..The Iditarod.., ..Iris.., and others, singing back up as well as playing a variety of instruments. He has also sung back up for the ..Anomoanon.., sung back up and played electric guitar for ..Six Organs of Admittance.., played percussion for ..Mick Turners Bonnevill.. project, played guitar and various instruments in ..Tiger Saw.. and various ethnic instruments for Koester as well as performing in other projects. Poe has also studied Karnac vocals and sitar for three years under ..Nirmal Bajekal.., who appears on Tanakh’s ..Villa Claustrophobia.. release.
