I believe in creating active music that can lighten a depressed mood and soothe a frazzled mind. Music that is instilled with a message of social and personal betterment. In the words of Michael Franti "to be rhymin' without a real reason is to claim but not to practice a religion''
I guess when I first began to write music, I was deeply influenced by the blue-roots and folk sounds of artists such as Ben Harper and Paul Kelly. I fell in love with the laid-back style of Jack Johnson and Ben, who can write fresh and chilled-out music even as they criticize, infiltrate and positively impact the fabric of society. Bob Dylan, John Butler, Midnight Oil, Rage Against the Machine, and Michael Franti encouraged me to write politically, and in 2005 I began writing about global issues. The song ‘Revenge' featured on my debut EP, 'The Twilight', released in June 2006, is a reflection on the Abu Ghraib prison scandal of 2004 when the abuse and torture of Iraqi war-prisoners by the American military was exposed. It did not take long for the public to forget this corrupt and abhorrent violation of human rights.
I recently returned from an 8-month journey through Latin America traveling, living, and sharing with the beautiful people I met. Inspired by their vivacity and love of life, I am now endeavoring to produce songs that inspire instead of dampening; songs that will motivate people to live joyfully and extraordinarily.
