Influences
Right now, most of the music I write, is based upon Female Power. Some of the powerful ladies that have influenced my music are, Lily Allen, Adele, and P!nk.

Someone who knows what's going on, and knows how to handle it.
Since relocating to Southern California Jessica Burks has transformed herself from a heartland singer/songwriter into an indie pop rock songstress of note, working with a variety of major and independent producers in a plethora of styles while maintaining a unity of vision that rises above genres and categories. Headlining shows at clubs in Hollywood and L.A., including her monthly Jessica Burks and Friends shows at Café Audrey and guest spots at Life and The Rainbow Room, she has also appeared at The Whiskey, The Hudson and The Cat Club in Hollywood, Blue Dog Café, The Prospector and Open Books in Long Beach and The Mint and Little Ethiopia Restaurant in LA and some notable festivals. To all of these events she brings a fresh take on pop music that’s alternative in more than name only.
Never afraid to take chances, she’s held forth with daring original sets (including successfully opening a heavy metal show with nothing but an acoustic guitar to protect her) and created her own brand of psychologically devastating pop while garnering CMJ adds on the world and pop/rock music charts. A recent EP gained her major airplay across the country including KPFK and KDVS in California, KTUH in Honolulu, KUNV in Las Vegas, KPFT in Houston, Texas, KGNU in Boulder, Colorado, WRRB in Trenton, New Jersey, WCSB in Cleveland, WAPS in Akron, Ohio, WXXE in Syracuse New York, WRIR in Richmond, Virginia and WYCE in Grand Rapids, Michigan as well as international play in Canada, Australia, New Zeland, Brazil,Portugal and, Jamaica.
Her music has garnered comments like “Singing is her breathing,” “a voice you can’t turnyour back on” and “there’s nothing out there quite like it that I know of” as well as positive comparisons to Alanis Morrisette, Natalie Merchant, Lucinda Williams, Dido and Feist. Sirius Satellite host Dermot Hussey says “Burks has one of those great American voices that tells so much about the country.” Reviews in the current issue of Beat Magazine refer to her “raw and yearning” and “half-seductive half-weary voice.” The chemical mix of Jessica Burks’ roots with the West Coast she has embraced results in a new approach that combines her personal vision with a contemporary cutting-edge sound.
