   About Jessica Care Moore
Essence magazine called her, "One of the most important voices of of her generation," jessica Care moore is a Poet, Book Publisher, Literary Activist, Scorpio, Playwright, Actor, Mommy, and Black Rock Music Artist. She is the CEO of the thriving publishing house, Moore Black Press. She's the "girl from the apollo," the dynamic young voice from the Motor City that swept the nationally televised It's Showtime at the Apollo's notoriously tough audiences off their feet, winning a record five consecutive weeks with her powerful poems, Black Statue of Liberty and Black Girl Juice. jessica Care moore made history on that stage and is recognized as an Apollo Legend. She is the celebrated author of the best selling poetry collections, The Words Don't Fit In My Mouth, The Alphabet Verses The Ghetto, and the forthcoming, God is Not an American. She is no ordinary poet, her publishing house gave voice to Saul William's first book, The Seventh Octave and currently boasts the names, ras baraka, asha bandele, Etan Thomas, Sharrif Simmons and Danny Simmons. As an activist and lecturer, jessica has also become a strong voice in the fight against the AIDS epidemic, performing and writing an original poem, Invisible Women during the United Nations World Aids Day Commemoration to bring awareness to women and children living with HIV. She has offered her time and voice to the AIDS WALK Opening Ceremonies in NYC, San Francisco, LA, Florida and Atlanta. She helped organize the successful Hip-Hop-A-Thon Concert, which helped to increase AIDS education in the Black and Latino Bay Area Community. She helped launch a writing fellowship, DIALOG in Atlanta, and continues to be a prominent voice in the literary arts community in her new home-based office in Detroit. She was the writer in residence for the Art at Work program, has produced several programs for the National Black Arts Festival, and is one the facilitators of The Langston Hughes National Poetry Circle Project. jessica Care moore has shared stages and worked with numerous literary and musical artists such as George Clinton, Antonio Hart, NAS, the late great Ossie Davis, Mos Def, the late great Gregory Hines, Judith Jamison, CeCe Winans, Anthony David, Roy Ayers, Gil Scott Herron, Sonia Sanchez, Steve Harvey, Cedric The Entertainer, Patrice Rushen, Talib Kweli, Ntozake Shange, Nikki Giovanni, The Last Poets and many more. She is one of the returning stars of the HBO Series Russell Simmons presents: Def Poetry Jam and has been featured on B.E.T., The Ed Gordon Show, Teen Summit, NBC's Today Show, and U.P.N.'s Living The Dream Special. Care moore is the author of the play There Are No Asylums for the Real Crazy Women. This one-woman stage production brings to life the story of Vivienne Eliot, the late first wife of famous poet T.S. Eliot. Fusing her modern use of poetry, hip-hop culture, feminist thought and language, Care moore offers a moving and innovative portrayal of an English woman born in 1888. She also authored and performed the "stand -up style play" AlphaPhobia, a semi-autobiographical sketch about a female poet who believes the alphabet is trying to kill her. This innovative and insightful production premiered at the 14th St. Playhouse in Atlanta during the National Black Arts Festival in 2002. She is one of the featured actors/poets in the film Hughes Dream Harlem (STARZ), star of the award winning indie film , His/Herstory. Jessica was the star, producer and writer of the a poetry and music driven show SPOKEN! on the Black Family Channel, directed by CEO Robert Townsend. The show was produced in association with Moore Black Press. jessica Care moore has traveled the world with her poems for over 12 years. She has performed for audiences in Toulouse, Perriguex, Paris, England, Scotland, South Africa, Berlin, and Holland. She was asked to be a part of the 10th anniversary of South African Democracy Celebrations and will tour in Cape Town, Joburg, and Durban, leading workshops sponsored by the American Embassy. Her words inspire along with her innovative approach to music. A blend of funk, hip-hop, soul and rock, she is creatively influenced by artists like, Betty Davis, Janis Joplin, Prince, The Temptations, and Marvin Gaye. Care moore's soulful, raspy voice leads the drum & bass-rock-poetry band Detroit Read (pronounced "red" like the color). Her dynamic stage show fuses rapid-fire-heartfelt poetry with heart-pounding rock, melodic vocals, acoustic guitar, house, & electric hip-hop. As a recording artist, she was worked with platinum Columbia recording artist NaS on Nastradamus, Impulse recording artist Antonio Hart's Here I Stand, Big Cat rap artist PBT, and is featured on The Last Poets Tribute Album. jessica is also an internationally published writer, with her work being featured in several major anthologies including, A Different Image, (UofD Mercy Press 2004), Abandon Automobile, (WSU Press 2001), Listen Up! (Random House, 1999), Step Into A World, (Wiley Publishing, 2001), Role Call (Third World Press 2002) Bum Rush The Page: A Def Poetry Jam (Crown Publishing 2001), in addition to Essence, Blaze, Source, Vibe, African Voices, Bomb, Mosaic, Good News, Savoy, One World, BE and many other magazines. jessica is currently writing a new solo theater work, entitled, God is Not an American, directed by famed director, Aku Kadogo. She is the proud birth mother of a precious, funny, 1-year son, King Thomas James Moore Poole. 2008 look for a new book, new music, new theater, new film and a full scale internet channel from the most progressive, powerful voices of this generation.

Allow Your Own Inner Light to Guide You

There comes a time when you must stand alone.

You must feel confident enough within yourself to follow your own dreams.

You must be willing to make sacrifices.

You must be capable of changing and rearranging your priorities so that your final goal can be achieved.

Sometimes, familiarity and comfort need to be challenged.

There are times when you must take a few extra chances and create your own realities.

Be strong enough to at least try to make your life better.

Be confident enough that you won't settle for a compromise just to get by.

Appreciate yourself by allowing yourself the opportunities to grow, develop, and find your true sense of purpose in this life.

Don't stand in someone else's shadow when it's your sunlight that should lead the way.

L*O*V*E* Y*O*U*!
Today is love u day. Send to everyone you love. Whether it s real love or friend love. Ur spoiled if you get 4 back.

Did Anyone Ever Tell You
How Important You Make Others Feel
Somebody out here is Smiling
About Love that is so Real

Did Anyone Ever Tell You that
Many Times When They were Sad
Your E-mail (and chats) made Them Smile a bit
In Fact It made Them Glad

For the Time You Spend Sending Things
And Sharing whatever You Find
There are No Words to Thank You
But Somebody, Thinks You re Fine

Did Anyone Ever Tell You
Just How Much They Love You
Well, My Dearest Friend
Today I am Telling You

I HOPE I GET THIS BACK
I believe that without a special
friend you are missing out on a lot.
