Although Jesca's music tends to cover a diverse range of genres, her songs could be compared with the likes of The Cranberries, Bjork, Dj Sammy, A Perfect Circle, Tori Amos, Evanescence
Jess grew up in a family home in rural Australia; a family home where Country and Top 40 were the main constituents of the musical diet. Armed only with an out-of-tune piano, she set out to compose music that would break away from all that surrounded her. To get an idea, imagine an artist whose music evokes thoughts of Tori Amos, The Cranberries, Bjork and Alanis Morissette and you are starting to get close.
After graduating from high school at age 17, in 2004, she moved from her Central-Queensland family home to the Gold Coast to commence a Bachelor of Popular Music Degree with the Conservatorium of Music. It was whilst studying there that her musical eclecticism stopped being a point of confusion for her and actually became something that she would grow to embrace; something which would define her personality as a singer/songwriter.
Having put together a recorded body of work during her degree, Jess is taking her music to the world. Germany and Ireland figure very strongly in her heritage. Hence, she has moved to Europe in a bid to broaden her cultural sensibilities with respect to her song writing and life. Never one to rest on her laurels, Jess is looking to incorporate traditional instruments into her music to further diversify her musical palette – an exciting prospect, as her music already shows a diversity and maturity that totally belies her age. As clichéd as it sounds, Jess is quite literally going on a musical journey of sorts. And whilst she will no doubt benefit as she continues to grow as an amazing songwriter, we, her audience, have the pleasure of being able to absorb her output as she continues to expand her musical capacities.
