JESSICA TOWNSON has a vocal presence that will make you stop what you’re doing and take notice, and a look that will make you glad you did. Whether it’s Country, Classic Rock or Soul you’re looking for, this 16 year old beauty delivers every style in a sultry tone that conveys a maturity beyond her years.
Winning both the Brantford Idol and St. George Idol competitions within weeks of each other in September of 2007, Jessica has been performing on stages all over Ontario since the age of 9; as a member of Starr Sensations vocal group, she learned all of the vital skills needed to be a dynamic performer from vocal coach Joan Minnery, Brantford’s First Lady of Elvis.
Flatbed Soul is Jessica’s first solid live band experience, and she has made a seamless transition from singing to tracks to being backed by a living, breathing entity.
Jessica's musical forte is Country but also enjoy singing many musical genres such as Jazz, Classic Rock, Pop and R & B. She has written 6 original songs, most recently one called 'CRUSH', co-written with my good friend Billy Minnery. The other 5 songs I have co-written with my song writing teacher Dave McWilliams.
Her dream is to sing on big stages such as Grand O' Oprey & one day Air Canada Center. My moto is simple..."Sing from your heart and make someone smile!"
FLATBED SOUL BAND MEMBERS:
ALICIA SKORETZ and Jessica have been singing together for 7 years, entertaining at various festivals and charity events. A statuesque picture of elegance, Alicia has been transformed by her time spent on stage.
Once a shy and quiet youth, she has grown into a strong young woman capable of holding her own when she shares the spotlight with the lovely ladies of Memphis Motion.
GUY WILKES is no stranger to the stage, having enjoyed success with several bands throughout his career. Over the past 40 years, ‘Wilky’ has lent his lead guitar talents to the likes of the Port Dover based Crusade Blues Band and Whiskey Hollow and Southbound of Brantford.
An extremely talented blues player, his laidback style of playing is a lot more complicated than it seems, and not easy to mimic. He’s thrilled to be backing Jessica in Flatbed Soul, having been wowed by her startling vocals the first time they met.
TOM DORSCHNER, along with his wife BETH, may just be the biggest supporters of live music in Brantford. Never shy about passing along a kind word or recommendation about their peers in the industry, you’re a fortunate soul if you’re lucky enough to call these two your friends. They’re both blessed with hearts, dedication and drive bigger than their bodies can hold.
Tom provides Flatbed Soul with its bottom end, playing with a precision that would lead you to believe he’s been playing bass a lot longer than he actually has. The onstage (and possibly the offstage) chemistry between Tom and Kevin gelled during their time together in Tommyknockers.
Tom’s other musical projects currently include the Juke Joint Ramblers, seen every Friday from 6pm ‘til 9pm at Brando’s on Market, and Rosie’s Underground All-Star Band.
Beth, alongside Jessica’s mom MICHELLE KING, plays a managerial role within the band.
Ask KEVIN BARRIE whether he enjoys working with Flatbed Soul, and he’ll tell you he still isn’t technically in the band. All serious cases of denial aside, Kevin doesn’t just play the drums; he possesses the unique ability to both assault and seduce the kit, all within the same song.
Kevin is a master of musical improv and sensing mood, a skill developed during his many years of performing, most notably with the Brantford Youth Orchestra, BarCode and Tommyknockers.
