I wasn’t the child who sang before I walked but I did cry very loud as a newborn baby – so loud that my mom had to put my crib at the other side of the living room . She picked me up and said “your going to be a singer because you’ve got some pipes!”
I was just an average kid raised in Chardon, Ohio. I clung on to my mom, rode my bike all summer, played outside with my friends and lived in a childhood make believe happy world.
My parents played a lot of old rock music and my sister and I would dance around the house, watch all the music channels and play a lot of music but other than that there were no instruments heard, singers singing or live bands playing in our home. We we’re just a normal, fun, happy, loving family.
I was cleaning the house at the age of 11 the first time I realized I might have potential to be a singer. “Someday” by Mariah Carey was playing on the radio and I sang that first verse about a dozen times until I was satisfied with the way it sounded. After that, I wasn’t just watching music channels, bio’s, video’s and performances but I was studying them day and night. I wanted to know the life of a successful singer, the work involved from A-Z so I did everything I could to learn.
At the age of 12, I received a karaoke machine for Christmas and from that moment on I sang all day everyday for everyone who stepped foot in our house and I was going to do whatever it took to get on a stage.
The local Chardon Talent Show was the first stage I sang on and from there it was whenever, wherever, however I could perform. I never cared if it was raining, snowing, freezing- if I had a show and another chance to sing I sang, and sang and sang more. Family Reunions, farm bereau and 4H meetings, fairs, festivals, parties, contests as quick as we could book them I was there.
Before I knew it I was 14 years old recording in a truck in the driveway of Emmylou Harris’s ex-husbands house with some of the most amazing studio musicians in Nashville. Then, not long after that sitting across from Jim Ed Norman, then Warner Bros. President talking about a development deal. I signed that on my 16th Birthday and it was over by the age of 18. I knew for sure that I was going to continue pursuing this even though success wasn’t going to come to me, I was going to have to go get it!
I continued performing and working hard with musicians, opening for country stars, performing locally and some nationally becoming a very well known local singer.
Then I moved to Nashville knowing I’d have to start from square one. A year and a half after moving God brought Gary, the husband of my dreams into my life. Not only is he 100% supportive of my career but he also has the same outlooks, dreams and goals that I’ve had my whole life. It’s not just me alone chasing this dream, he is working every step of the way by my side day and night. We are eating, sleeping and living this together as a team and we have been since the day we met 5 years ago.
I feel so blessed to be where I am today with a stong sense of who I am, living this life, striving, pushing things forward and creating success one step at a time doing the work I am meant to be doing. Only God knows the exact plan but I am ready for it!
