greg's Interests
|
| General | Soccer, climbing (99% indoor), snowboarding (when it's in season)... Soccer kills weekends for half the year but it's still worth it.
I *still* haven't totally given up on tennis, but really I haven't even made time to climb. So I'm probably super-rusty again.
Random things about me: I'm definitely more of an Irish Pub type than a club type. I like to barbecue. I like to hike in the rain. My last car was a Subaru, my current car is a Subaru, and unless I'm making gobs of money down the line, my next car will be a Subaru. | | Music | In general, just about anything except hip hop and R+B... favorite song is "Just What I Needed" by The Cars.
5 random songs I wrote down on a list in 30 seconds: Little Black Backpack (Stroke 9), Runaway (Del Shannon), Peaceful Easy Feeling (The Eagles), Disappear (Hoobastank), Mud on the Tires (Brad Paisley)
5 more random songs in 30 seconds: Walk This Way (Run DMC version), Stacy's Mom (Fountains of Wayne), Picture (Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow), Always Something There To Remind Me (Naked Eyes), Overkill (Colin Hay's solo acoustic version)
Lately, older music over new music.
I like a lot of classic rock because my sibs are all that much older than me and it was some of the first music I ever heard (45's of Foreigner, Boston, Eagles, etc).
I grew up playing an instrument and my father loves classical so that's rubbed off on me a bit as well. Mostly Baroque and heavy hitters like Mozart and Beethoven.
Yes, I'm an Asian American who digs country music.
The new car has XM, and it's been nice so far. I'm usually listening to Ethel (Channel 47) so stuff like Arcade Fire, Shiny Toy Guns, Snow Patrol and the like get stuck in my head. Also the Classic Rock Stations (46, 49), and the "Hits" in the 20s. | | Movies | Conan the Barbarian and Weekend At Bernie's always come to mind... seriously. But I like good movies, too (actually Conan counts as a good one in my book, great soundtrack and cinematography). Garden State is up there. Maybe "The Blood of Heroes", too.
I like dramas when I'm forced to watch them but usually if it's my choice I go for comedies and sports movies, sometimes sci-fi. I have a not-so-secret affinity for chick flicks but I swear I'm straight. Oh, and with the comedy thing, I draw the line at ridiculous/raunchy/mindless crap, usually (meaning no Jackass, no Borat, no f*cking Tom Green, and no Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back even though I liked all the other Kevin Smith movies). | | Television | Soccer on TV, as well as A's games. Scrubs... not watching the new episodes, though (I figure I'll catch the rest when the show is over on DVD). Robot Chicken but not lately. Old time favorites include a lot of shows that didn't run too long, like Sports Night, Firefly, and Futurama. I had been watching the new Battlestar Galactica and Entourage but I'm a season+ behind on both now... **NOT** a fan of 24 or "reality"/talent shows, most hyped-up TV turns out to be pretty crappy IMO.
Almost Live. With John John John John John John John Keeeeeister.... | | Books | Watership Down
Microserfs
Starship Troopers | | Heroes | Heroes, blah. Favorite sports teams instead:
MLB: A's and Tigers
NFL: Seattle Seahawks (I used to root for whatever team Drew Bledsoe was on but he finally retired)... the Bears are worth rooting for, too. In all honesty, with no office pools anymore, NFL isn't that exciting.
NBA: Grew up a Sonics fan and rooted for them until Wally Walker destroyed the team. Favorite player of all time...Gary Payton. For 2007-2008 I rooted for the Celtics and Nuggets. Anyway, March Madness is way better.
Soccer: In MLS, San Jose Earthquakes (but it's hard not to follow Houston since they have all our old players)... Liverpool, Fulham, and Bolton in EPL... USA for national team... and Agave FC in the Berkeley Co-Ed Soccer League!
College team: UC BERKELEY! GO BEARS! Doesn't matter what sport. And the PAC-10 overall.

greg's Blurbs |
About me:
The short of it... born in Michigan, raised in the Seattle area, went to UC Berkeley and have settled in the Bay Area for now (going on fourteen years). Raised in Suburbia, and enjoying now again as an adult although the neighbors all probably wish I'd mow my frickin' lawn more often.
Rain and snow are both cool.
The FOUR things I like to be doing when I'm not working: soccer, climbing, snowboarding, and riding.
The job: There are good days and bad days. The concept of the project we're working on is something I've been looking forward to for years, but starting out in a small company and having that taken over by a giant corporation has caused some frustrations. I won't bore you with details of what I actually do (unless you ask), but I work in high tech, specifically the storage industry (that's disk arrays, tape drives, and backup software, not AAAAA Rent-A-Space).
Agave FC: Berkeley Co-Ed Soccer Spring 2008 CHAMPIONS! We enter the summer as 3-peat champions riding a 37-game league unbeaten streak...
Hey idiot spammers, please don't waste my time.

Who I'd like to meet:
Hot members of the opposite sex: Still Heather Mitts (looking good after coming back from an ACL tear, well on her way to Beijing) and Kerri Walsh (even though she went to Stanfurd). And Ana Ivanovic... wow.
Famous people: Right now I'd like to meet Emeril or Bobby Flay.
Sports people: Bobby Knight
Humans are social animals. The general idea of meeting new people is usually attractive, but you really have to be in the mood for it. I'm generally a bit awkward with new folk (unless I've had half a bottle of tequila, then chicks dig me, go figure... okay, that worked ONCE) but once you get to know me I'm pretty open.
