Cheryl's Interests
|
| General | laughing loving talking snuggling listening creating writing reading being doing having thinking wishing hoping eating drinking needing wanting fixing moping hopping jumping flunking swimming crying cooking slumping sleeping beading meeting sharing sitting asking helping learning wondering dreaming pining | | Music | I used to live in the Chicago area and I really miss the independent community radio station, WLUW, which was my source for interesting new and old music. It was my crutch because I am kind of fickle about music, have a bad memory for band names, but like a variety of styles and genres. So, a list of perennial favorites and fleeting loves might include: Johnny Cash, The Decemberists, Joanna Newsom, Nina Simone, TV on the Radio, The Crystal Skulls, ...and you will know us by the trail of the dead, Interpol, Dead Milkmen, Cesaria Evora, Ali Farke Toure, Willie Nelson, Yma Sumac, The Corto Maltese, Beastie Boys, Neko Case, Duran Duran, Brakes, Gogol Bordello, Eagles of Death Metal, Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Snowden, Franz Ferdinand, Lyle Lovett, late 70's country & western, etc. and whatever. | | Movies | I love movies. I love them a lot. And I love a lot of them. And many different genres. Some faves: Pan's Labrynth, In America, Cinema Paradiso, Life is Beautiful (actually, I hate this move, but I love it because I hate it so much because it made me sob and slobber and snot for about an hour afterwards. I am such a sucker, I know. My husband too, but don't tell him I told you), Goodbye Mr. Chips, Children of Men (mmmm... Clive Owen), Adaptation (One of the best movies about writing ever written and filmed. Ever.), Blue Velvet, Fargo, Kill Bill Volumes 1 &2, Cohen bros. movies, Mulholland Drive, To Kill a Mockingbird, Bottle Rocket, I *heart* Huckabees, Batman Begins, Memento, Pulp Fiction, Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, Resevoir Dogs, Henry and June, Alien, Aliens, The Player, Short Cuts, Living in Oblivion, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotlss Mind, Pretty in Pink, Farenheit 911, Dogtown and Z Boys, Almost everything Tim Burton does, all the song and dance sequences in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Deep Roy as the Oompa Loompas, Jerry Bruckheimer movies - I love them all (except Top Gun, because my hatred for Tom Cruise is much much greater than my love for car chases, explosions, sweat, blood, and cock-rock soundtracks). Also, Bourne Supremacy, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Anchorman, Starship Troopers. You'll notice that this list is almost completely devoid of new releases. Again, with the 4 year old kid. When we do get a night out, we tend to not let a movie cut into valuable drinking time. Hello, Netflix! | | Television | If you are not watching Battlestar Galactica drop everything, rent the first three seasons, and start watching now. Seriously, its the best show on television right now, and I am not a sci-fi geek. Great acting and writing. Also, the Daily Show, Colbert Report, The Office (both British and US versions), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Muppets, Fraggle Rock, Chappelle's Show | | Books | Almost everything by Jose Saramago, "Gilead", Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Angela Carter, Raould Dahl, The Memory Keepers Daughter, Harry Potter, Arthurian legends, books that explore religions, ancient beliefs and mysticism. Hemingway, Salman Rushdie, Tom Robbins. A Series of Unfortunate Events. Paul Auster. All kinds of stuff. | | Heroes | My hot hot husband. My brother-in-law. My amazing daughter. My family. Molly Ivins. People who go out and do good in the world. |
