MusicI used to live in the Chicago area and I really miss the independent community radio station, WLUW, which was my source for interesting new and old music. It was my crutch because I am kind of fickle about music, have a bad memory for band names, but like a variety of styles and genres. So, a list of perennial favorites and fleeting loves might include: Johnny Cash, The Decemberists, Joanna Newsom, Nina Simone, TV on the Radio, The Crystal Skulls, ...and you will know us by the trail of the dead, Interpol, Dead Milkmen, Cesaria Evora, Ali Farke Toure, Willie Nelson, Yma Sumac, The Corto Maltese, Beastie Boys, Neko Case, Duran Duran, Brakes, Gogol Bordello, Eagles of Death Metal, Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Snowden, Franz Ferdinand, Lyle Lovett, late 70's country & western, etc. and whatever.
MoviesI love movies. I love them a lot. And I love a lot of them. And many different genres. Some faves: Pan's Labrynth, In America, Cinema Paradiso, Life is Beautiful (actually, I hate this move, but I love it because I hate it so much because it made me sob and slobber and snot for about an hour afterwards. I am such a sucker, I know. My husband too, but don't tell him I told you), Goodbye Mr. Chips, Children of Men (mmmm... Clive Owen), Adaptation (One of the best movies about writing ever written and filmed. Ever.), Blue Velvet, Fargo, Kill Bill Volumes 1 &2, Cohen bros. movies, Mulholland Drive, To Kill a Mockingbird, Bottle Rocket, I *heart* Huckabees, Batman Begins, Memento, Pulp Fiction, Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, Resevoir Dogs, Henry and June, Alien, Aliens, The Player, Short Cuts, Living in Oblivion, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotlss Mind, Pretty in Pink, Farenheit 911, Dogtown and Z Boys, Almost everything Tim Burton does, all the song and dance sequences in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Deep Roy as the Oompa Loompas, Jerry Bruckheimer movies - I love them all (except Top Gun, because my hatred for Tom Cruise is much much greater than my love for car chases, explosions, sweat, blood, and cock-rock soundtracks). Also, Bourne Supremacy, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Anchorman, Starship Troopers. You'll notice that this list is almost completely devoid of new releases. Again, with the 4 year old kid. When we do get a night out, we tend to not let a movie cut into valuable drinking time. Hello, Netflix!
TelevisionIf you are not watching Battlestar Galactica drop everything, rent the first three seasons, and start watching now. Seriously, its the best show on television right now, and I am not a sci-fi geek. Great acting and writing. Also, the Daily Show, Colbert Report, The Office (both British and US versions), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Muppets, Fraggle Rock, Chappelle's Show
BooksAlmost everything by Jose Saramago, "Gilead", Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Angela Carter, Raould Dahl, The Memory Keepers Daughter, Harry Potter, Arthurian legends, books that explore religions, ancient beliefs and mysticism. Hemingway, Salman Rushdie, Tom Robbins. A Series of Unfortunate Events. Paul Auster. All kinds of stuff.
HeroesMy hot hot husband. My brother-in-law. My amazing daughter. My family. Molly Ivins. People who go out and do good in the world.

Thanks for checking in. :-) Indigo's fever broke yesterday and he didn't throw up all day today, so he's ready to go back to school tomorrow. Tolkien's fever started tonight and he begged me not to send him to school tomorrow. I don't have any sick or vacation time left. None. Zero. And I couldn't afford my trip to LA, but god damn it, I'm going.

Bleh.

Stupid economy.

Stupid sick kids.

Hmph.

I think I kind of have the hots for Matt on Listi's blog.
He goes down during that time of the month. Is it weird that I find that painfully hot?

Is this what being in your sexual prime feels like?

Wow.

nothin, just livin life and trying not to get harassed by the ridiculous amount of police here. they just started a new drug task force program and they're targeting young ppl who possibly got the mean green machine. I actually got pulled over the other day for going 62 in a 60 going down hill when the elderly man next to me had just passed me going at least over 65. But i've been trying to get everyone to sign a decriminalization petition to put it on the next ballot. they already did it in 2 cities very near us so its very likely.
haha so whats up w/ you?

No, no. I did not think to do this. We were going to "come to an agreement" and have full access to each other's records and whatnot. This is why I'm just now taking action 20 months after leaving him. I figure, if we can't come to an agreement in 20 months, we're probably never going to.

Your most recent comment on Listi's page was so amazing - like Obama's victory speech caliber amazing. You are gifted with words. You should seriously think about doing something with that.

Hey! I've been doing some major de-cluttering. I've had this mug FOREVER! lol I think my parents got us each a mug with our names on them -- back when we were LITTLE and stayed at each others' houses all the time. We kept one at our house just for you!

Seriously - we're talkin' these go back to '78 - '80!!

Just wanted to share! Yours is orange, mine is green (not pictured).

And hey, if you want it I can mail it to you. (I cleaned it, but it was surprisingly clean anyway; none of us ever used it.) Hope you're doing well!! *hugs*
