Jetsunma, a Brooklyn native, is the first Western woman recognized and enthroned as a tulku or reincarnate lama in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Recognized by HH Penor Rinpoche, HH Dilgo Khentse Rinpoche, and Dzongang Rinpoche, eminent masters of this time, Jetsunma has been called a great Bodhisattva by her teachers and many Tibetan masters who have taught at her temple over the years.
According to tradition, Dakinis, or female wisdom beings, bring the wisdom of the Buddha to new lands through spontaneous teaching and song. Jetsunma has taught just such a treasury for over two decades. Her engaging style skillfully distills the vast wisdom of the Buddha, helping people to bring real compassion into their everyday lives.
Her songs spark with the spontaneity and power of traditional Bodhisattva song: bridging the urban underground and deep spiritual truth.
Jetsunma just finished laying down the vocals for her fourth album,A Lineage of Queens, on which she delivers a strong message of female empowerment as she chronicles a dakini's life. On this album, dedicated in part to John Lennon in hopes of fulfilling his dreams, she is collaborating with renowned musicians such as Tex Gabriel and Jimmy Mack, along with Louis Winfield and vocalist Tara Middleton.

Jetsunma said, “A Lineage of Queens is, for me, a work of love for the spirit and heart of women, and men who are progressive. It speaks to the lack of empowerment and quality of life that one half of the world’s population experiences. In many places, and for a long time, women have been considered property, servants, unequal. Yet the Buddha teaches, and I believe, that all sentient beings--ALL without exception--are equal in their nature and potential. It is my dream and prayer to tell them so."
