About me:
Jewel of Denial skidded out of a Virginia trailer park back in 2002 and headed out west with nothing but her dreams. It was in Los Angeles the following summer that she entered the sparkling world of the Velvet Hammer Burlesque--LA’s pioneering burlesque troupe, and remained a solo dancer until 2005.
Jewel has graced stages in 6 states and 13 cities; including Las Vegas, Hollywood, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Richmond, and Washington D.C. Her signature style juxtaposes the basics of life: heartache, trash, social issues, poop, religion, work and death with glamour and sex appeal for a humorous, sometimes shocking outcome.
This Jewel has years of movement training--from ballroom at Arthur Murray to jazz and dance fitness at L.A. Dance Arts Academy. She has also carefully researched retro dances such as apache, lindy hop, swing, and jive.
Currently, Jewel of Denial holds the title of 2008 Miss Exotic World--Best Duo category. She is also co-founder of Striptease Symposium: where she consults, teaches group classes, and offers private instruction. You can catch her performing regularly all around L.A., as well as all around Europe this summer!
I LIKE
food fights, teaching, child-like qualities, the smell of fresh cut grass, recieving handwritten letters, privacy, live shows, showgirls, showboys, water, old country music, pitbulls, baby animals, actually all babies and all animals, myself sometimes, hot out the dryer laundry, psychological foreplay, dancing, mixtapes and CD's by friends, living in the valley, gerber daisies, old things, '79 Pontiac Firebirds and '89 Camaros (my 1st cars), shiny objects, rockstar parking, good and bad tattoos, tea, Jack and Coke with lots of cherries, my family, all my friends, artists, making good use of trash, getting awesome, watching amazing dancers, watching terrible dancers, and all things in between, books about the history of subcultures, dance, music, and styles, snakes, old Warner Brothers cartoons, open road, helping people laugh, choreographing, southern values, gapped, chipped, and perfect teeth, thinking about my own death--it's such a great motivator!, black and white photos, making money, ocean animals (octopi are my fave!), fresh beats, good lyrics, party rocker DJs, getting messy, dirty, sweaty, camping, biking, vegan food (dirty hippie comment automatically inserted so you don't have to!), car shows, old hats, ice-cream, porches on summer nights, writing, making stuff, flossin' (my teeth), Engrish, curious, honest, adventurous, and spontaneous people.
I DON'T LIKE
licorice, watching eating contests, tequila, cigarette smoke, childish qualities, selling things, thinking about the inside of my body or surgery, red roses, flying, martinis, throwing up, scorpions (a mixture of giant poisonous spider and crab--God, what were you thinking???), pretty boys, apartment issued carpet/blinds, lies, liver, animals as accessories, blogging my inner monologue, celebrity "news", branding (like a nasty, ugly raised scar on yr skin), roller skating, too spicy food, white icing on cheap cake, thinking about sharks when I'm swimming, stuffed animals, pretentiousness, when men shave their bodies, factory farming, ill communication, being too cool, worrying about my cookie hanging out of my costume, and when people say vice-a versa, it's VICE VERSA!
