João began playing acoustic guitar and studying music at age thirteen. He started playing lots of Dire Straits and Clapton. Later he transcribed and played works by Toninho Horta, Pat Metheny, George Benson, Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Eric Johnson, Pat Martino, and Claus Ogerman.
He has a degree in Arrangement from Uni-Rio and has attended several courses of Ear training, Harmony, Counterpoint Theory, Improvisation. He has also studied Classical and Flamenco guitar. João is wired with all the different styles and musical influences in the world, and has done extensive research on dozens of instructional videos and transcriptions of different artists.
Always fascinated with different sounds and instruments, he plays besides Electric and Acoustic guitars: Mandolin, Cavaquinho, Lap Steel, Banjo , Dobro (Resonator) , Charango and Portuguese Guitar.
João has just released his first instrumental solo album, Camaleão Carioca, where he shows all the different nuances of his playing and of his Brazilian musical culture. The songs are almost all authoral and the album feature guests such as Daniel Jobim, Guinga, Leo Gandelman and Leandro Braga.
In 2009 in the 20th edition of Tápias Festival he won the Best Instrumentalist prize.
He has been on tour throughout the world with several artists and has recorded or been on stage with, among others: Ivan Lins, Lenine, Zélia Duncan, Leo Gandelman, Guinga, Ney Matogrosso, Josee Koning, Frejat, Zeca Baleiro, Angela Ro Ro and Naná Vasconcelos. Web site:

João começou a tocar violão e estudar música aos 13 anos. No início tocou muito Dire Straits e Clapton, depois passou a transcrever e tocar musicas de Toninho Horta, Pat Metheny, Leo Gandelman, George Benson, Pat Martino, Chick Corea, Eric Johnson, Michael Brecker, entre outros. Estudou em cursos particulares Guitarra, Harmonia Funcional, Contra-ponto, Percepção musical e Improvisação. Mais tarde se formou Bacharel em MPB (Arranjo) na Uni-Rio, onde também estudou bem mais a fundo o violão popular brasileiro e clássico. Também fez aulas particulares de violão Flamenco.
Sempre se interessou por vários instrumentos de corda e toca além de Guitarra e Violões de nylon e aço, Bandolim, Cavaquinho, Lap steel, Banjo, Dobro, Charango e Guitarra Portuguesa.
Agora acaba de gravar seu primeiro album solo, Camaleão Carioca, praticamente todo de composições autorais e que teve as participações especiais de Leo Gandelman, Daniel Jobim, Guinga e Leandro Braga.
Ganhou o premio de Melhor Instrumetista em 2009 na vigésima edição do Festival Tápias.
Nos ultimos anos gravou e/ou dividiu o palco com diversos artistas como Leo Gandelman, Zélia Duncan, Lenine, Ivan Lins, Guinga, Eduardo Dussek, Angela Ro Ro, Rita Ribeiro, Simone Guimarães, Josee Koning, Frejat, Ney Matogrosso, Claudio Lins, Daniel Gonzaga, Bena Lobo e Naná Vasconcelos.
