I'm a connoisseur of comedy shows and movies, a recovering news junkie, a health nut and fitness buff, an avid reader, and I like stand-up comedy, drawing, and playing music. I'm also a libertarian. I read a lot of social science, politics, history, biography, evolutionary psychology, and self-help.
Music
I like many types of music, including The Clash, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Queen, Steely Dan, Nine Inch Nails, Bad Religion, Norah Jones, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Parker, Nat King Cole, Hank Williams, Prokofiev, Beethoven, Chopin, etc. I'm currently listening to more recent releases in order to stay current.
Movies
I favor comedies, classics, and documentaries. I also like anime and samurai pictures. Akira Kurosawa and Stanley Kubrick are two of my favorite filmmakers. Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Adaptation, Underground, Sideways, His Girl Friday, Yojimbo, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ed Wood, Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, Goodfellas, Crumb (documentary), and many others. Eventually, one of my movies will make this list as well.
Television
South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Flight of the Concords, Is It Real?, SNL, Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame, Lost, Heroes, Penn and Teller: Bullshit!, 20/20, Human Weapon, Most Evil, C-Span2: Book TV, a lot of History Channel programs, and cable news.
Books
Nonfiction, mostly (human behavior, history, literary criticism, essay collections, and so on). I've also read some mystery novels and science fiction books recently, but short stories are my favorites. Recent reads: The Blank Slate, For Your Own Good, Inside the Criminal Mind, The Red Queen, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and lots of textbooks.
Heroes
Polymaths like Charles Darwin, Leonardo da Vinci, Francis Galton, Francis Crick, and others. I also appreciate the writings of David D. Burns, Murray Rothbard, James Bovard, Bertrand Russell, Steven Pinker, and Matt Ridley. A few filmmakers, too. Great painters are amazing. Oh, and my father.
About me: My name is Joss. I'm a videographer, independent filmmaker, writer, and musician. My academic background is in criminal justice and anthropology, but political science is my passion. (I'm currently studying Broadcasting and Electronic Media.) I spend a fair amount of time on the Internet, but I also enjoy watching movies, reading, and discussing philosophy. I like going to hiking trails, lecture halls, gallery hops, and the occasional sporting event. And I like rare books, very old maps, and hominid fossils (or their casts). I'm deeply committed to reason, skepticism, and critical thinking. I've also made three documentaries. I'm a lifelong Kentucky resident.
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone interested in making movies, talking about libertarianism or social science, or discussing mutual artistic and musical interests.
