My Influences
...My recent discoveries of old blues/folk/roots music from Son House,Black Ace, Slim Harpo,Blind Wille Johnson, Josh White, Vera Hall, Mrs. Mary Pickens, Elizabeth Cotten just to name a few has me very inspired, along with a lot of indigenous music from Navajo Elders, Muchatera, Mbuti Pygmies,Fulani, Hawaiian, and especially a Vietnamese tune I found called Lo 1 Song Nui byHoang-Vuy, its absolutely insane, you here jazz, you hear abstractions, you hear rhythm, it has inspired me to want to share this music with all who would be into experimental music, it is not for everybody mind you. Look for my posted playlists soon from my new website, where i will be featuring a lot of new music. Some of the other artists that always offer me wonderful nourishment in their music are Anaya aka Pam my sister, Brother Darnell and Lamont, Dad on keys, Mom on vocals, Aunt Vickie Uncle Bobby and Cousin Carleen, Grandaddy on the guitar, Uncle Sam on guitar, and all the rest of my gifted tribe. Michelle Ndegeocello, Ani Di Franco, Kelly Jo Phelps, Bright Eyes, James Singleton, Cassandra Wilson, Jill Scott, Lauren Hill, Ledisi, Amel Larrieaux, Z Star, Eska, Charlie Mingus is my constant companion and Thelonious Monk, Greg Osby, Count Basie, Duke, Stevie, Donnie Hathaway, Earth Wind & Fire, Isley Brothers, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits, Chocolate Genius, Jeff Buckley, Lalah Hathaway, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Pops Staples, and KoKo Taylor, Kandido, Block 16, Massive Attack, One Giant Leap, Stanton Warriors, Chuck D. , Slum Village, Jill, Erykah and India, N'Dambi, Lalah, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama,
Sounds LikeCheck out: Jhelisa I certainly look at our humanity as primitive, Jhelisa says. I look at my developing ways as primitive, but hopefully, I am growing into advancement in my struggle to BE THERE, to arrive at an ultimate strength of faith and hope and unpenetrable endurance of spirit. Much like evolution. From my perspective, a primitive guide to being there is to me like a global gumbo, ready for consumption, in all of its varying degrees.

.. --> --> --> --> --> --> --> - In 1994, Jhelisa released her first solo album "Galactica Rush" on Dorado Records, followed two years later by "Language Electric", both produced by Lee Hamblin and Jhelisa. Jhelisa's best known track is "Friendly Pressure". Her many collaborations have been with artists such as Jeff Buckley, The Shamen, Courtney Pine, Bjork, Massive Attack, Chaka Khan, Greg Osby, Bryan Ferry, Block 16, Dana Bryant, Block 16 and Outside to name a few. Touring in the UK, Europe and Japan, Jhelisa shared the bill with the legendary James Brown, Herbie Hancock, The Roots, Michael Franti, Talib Kweli, Roy Ayers, Sting, Arrested Development and Nitin Sawhney. Besides her musical activities, Jhelisa was featured in the Italian film "The Protagonist" starring British actress Tilda Swinton (Narnya, Beach). Jhelisa has traveled extensively in both Africa and Brazil and has taken inspiration from the rich musical cultures around the world. In 2004 Jhelisa moved to New Orleans to record her new album "A PRIMITIVE GUIDE TO BEING THERE" for INFRACom!. When hurricane "Katrina" hit New Orleans Jhelisa left the city. Her studio and her house were destroyed by the flood and part of the album is lost too. Jhelisa has now completed the recordings in Atlanta. The CD will be sold as a bundle together with the DVD "One week with Jhelisa - Rediscovering America". New projects include the soon to be released SUNDAY IN ALGIERS A TRIBUTE TO NINA SIMONE, recorded in New Orleans a few months before Katrina, featuring James Singleton on Acoustic Bass, Brian Coogan on Piano and Endre Landsnes on drums. Jhelisa is also a featured vocalist on the new ONE GIANT LEAP CD/DVD.

[S27-026] Nonima & theAudiologist - Almost Tomorrow
(Glitch, Ambient, Downtempo, IDM)

..
Click image to go to download page

Almost Tomorrow is the third full length collaboration album from Section 27 Netlabel founders Tam Ferrans and Andrew Paterson, under their Nonima & theAudiologist guise. This time around the sound is more melodic, and has a definite feeling of a complete and more mature sound than heard on the previous LP's "Dystopian Battle Hymns" and "Ceremony After Amputation". If you are familiar with their individual projects you may even be in for a slight surprise, as the tracks are not as beat driven like before, but are more atmospheric and sound, well... "bigger". In its 75 minutes, Almost Tomorrow takes you on a trip from the digital rain-soaked cavernous scraping in "Thoughtograph", the ethereal beat jittering of "The Colour of Rain", intercepted transmissions from unknown places in "Com-Intercept", "Ganzfeld"s huge yet strangely insect-like beats until everything you knew comes crashing around you in "Almost Tomorrow". Burning pianos, glitched out soundscapes and intricately programmed beatplay, this may well be their best work to date. Consider it the soundtrack to a rainy overcast day, but with just that glimmer of sunshine peeking from the clouds. "Almost Tomorrow" wears its heart on its sleeve.

You sound sometimes political, sometimes painful and sometimes mysterious but there is always that soothing feeling in your voice that I like. You sang with Jeff Buckley? I didn't know that. You're lucky because he was a very special songwriter/singer. What is the name of the recording you made with Jeff Buckley? Enough said,
