Jigabeats is a project I started in 2007 with the idea of creating what some may call remixes or mashups, but what I like to call "transitional tracks." Almost all rap and hip hop music is sampled from other tracks, and anymore, sampled songs are re-sampled in another song! That's where transitional tracks come in. I take the original, and mix in songs that used the original song in their sample. It's like magic!
Another reason why I call them transitional tracks are because while making a playlist for a party, I always try to find a song that makes for a good transition between genres. For example, if I were to go from rap to rock, or vise versa, I could go with Lil Wayne's Hot Revolver or Shanell's Play In My Band, followed up with Linkin Park. With varying BPM, it's hard to find the right songs to accomplish this. When you throw a playlist up on your iPod, you don't have much DJing abilities, so that's why I make these tracks:To make party playlists sound better.
With my mixtapes, you can expect a nice mix of transitional tracks, full DJ sets, and some original songs. It's not so much what the rap/hip hop scene consider mixtapes, more like what you did with a cassette tape with your favorite songs.
