Band Members

JACK TINAPPLE
vocals, guitar, harmonica, flute

A seasoned performer and frontman, Tinapple puts the 'Cook' in Cooky, the Crème in Crème brûlée...he's the gin in your Martini, the ling in your Linguini, he puts the jiggy jig in Jigsaw.

MARK BLEAKLEY
Trumpet, Piano, Saxaphone

We all know how amazing Mark is as a player, but did you know that he once scared off a crocodile with a pillow while he was camping by the river? Need I say more?

PAUL KELLY
drums

The best description given of Paul was by an audience member who said after a gig "hey, your drummer is like Animal from the Muppets." ...Yes, we know!

KIM ORCHARD
guitars

Jigsaw recently asked Bob Dylan to the band, but he refused. He told us he has a double named Kim Orchard who lives on Christmas Island who plays a wicked slide guitar. We also asked Ry Cooder, but after the audition we decided to take Kim instead.

BRIAN CULLEN
guitar

Brian

DAN DAVIES
double bass

Dan learnt 10 songs in a week to play an impromptu Jigsaw gig in 2007. They have been unable to remove him since.

Past Members

BEN BATES
electric/acoustic guitars

Ben is in Tasmania, or rather out of it because his myspace page describes him as 'single'... he he he... Anyway, he's enjoyng studying there and is one of those crazy people that actually likes cold weather.

SHANNON HARITOS
double bass/ electric bass

Currently living in Sydney for work & study, Shannon is hungry as a hooker to get back to Darwin to have a crepe', and read the NT News.

ALEKS PUSZ
percussion

Aleks was the original kit player in the band. We call him a percussionist coz he can play anything wackable, not just the drum kit, if you can call it a drum kit. He's down in Mildura, SA now percussioning about.

   About Jigsaw Collective

A BIT ABOUT US:
JIGSAW- were originally a jazz band but over the years have added a heavy metal drummer and rock guitarist to the mix, creating some interesting original songs. Having formed in 2004 for a one-off gig they've been happily married ever since. Some highlights include:

Finalists - National Campus Band Comp 2005
Winners - Sabian Cymbols Battle of the Bands
Feature- Sunday Arts ABC
Winner - 'Best original soundtrack' FFOF 2005
etc...

Their drummer was once described by an audience member as 'Animal from the Muppets', their trumpeter once scared off a crocodile with a pillow, and the bass player ran away to join Hole at age 14. The guys and gal wish they could escape music to make ridiculous sums of money as lawyers, but for better or worse they're addicted, and as with an addiction to herion, they spend all their time trying to get it and all their money on it. Overall they're a band with a passion for life and a lust for performing.

JIGSAW COLLECTS:
As JIGSAW has evolved it has had various line up changes and recorded with a lot of different folk. So, we've decided to call ourselves (informally) JIGSAWCOLLECTIVE. This is meant to reflect the hard work of heaps of our friends who have helped us out with the album by laying down a solo or a fill here and there, and of course, we had a drummer change half way through. So basically it's a shout out to all the people that have made our sometimes impossible dream of releasing a CD a reality. Not to mention Dan on bass and Brian on guitar who keep the JIGSAW dream alive because Shannon and Ben buggered off interstate to pursue their own dreams of becoming professional double bass players.

The Evolution of Jigsaw:

Original band members
Jack - Vocals, flute, mouth harp and later adding almost every wind instrument possible.
Mark - Keys, Trumpet and, later, a Fisher Price keyboard he bought from Toyworld
Aleks - Designer drum kit with a tambourine style hi-hat
Shannon - Bass, double and electric
Brian - Classical Geetar
Released the original Jigsaw CD "Live Jazz"

Then Brian left and Ben replaced him with the electric axe and Japanese steel string Dreadnought Ibanez Guitar with inlaid mother of pearl

Then Aleks pushed off to Mildura in SA and was replaced by Paul with the conventional thrash style drum kit

Then Shannon left for Sydney, to study double bass, coz it's such an awesome instrument, leaving Ben to play double bass (coz you can't have a band without a bass) and Mark was going to switch between keys, trumpet and guitar, and possibly all three at once (it was discussed).

But then Ben decided he liked playing bass too and went to do his Post-grad in Double Bass down in Hobes in Tassy. That's when Dan Dann the Bushtucker Man steps in with his double bass; Brian also returns with his newly developed classical / jazz s-s-s-tyles and Kim Orchard also fills in here and there with his custom guitars and other knick-knacks like finger plectrums and glass slides for playin' the blues.

Then the guitar festival returns for it's seventh season directed by the God of guitar gods - Adrian Walter (note: listed in influences) and Ben and Shannon are drawn back to Darwin to release a new CD M*Bass featuring Ben and Shannon on the cover. However we were a little dissapointed that our replacements took over half of our CD launch. And Jack's well known stubbornness didn't help either.

Now Ben and Shannon are back in their holes considering a reformation with Aleks down in Adelaide and the Jigsaw Collective continues on jazzin' Darwin.

We have spring here in Canberra now - blossoms and cool (rather than freezing) breezes. I was in Sydney the other day actually for a gig (it was a corporate gig though) and I was catching a lift and just in and out overnight, so I didn't get to catch up. Close though.

I'm thinking maybe a black and white photo of you looking contemplative on your SONY album cover, in a black high-neck knitted top. The photo would be repeated on the inside cover, but hand drawn in pencil, to tie in with the 'sketches' album title. Maybe just details of the cover photo would be sketched in the inside panels, like your hand holding a coffee cup.

Hehe... it's currently below 20 degrees and raining outside. How awesome is that?? I love it!!

Yes, I'm a crazy Melbournian. It's just nice to be the person who *isn't* complaining about the weather for a change.
