Sadly we are no longer working together and this is an inactive profile. We decided to leave it up anyhow, though it will not be updated. "One of Australia's most popular acoustic festival bands, Jigzag, are a gifted trio that's a must see on the festival circuit. They're wonderfully eclectic, virtuosic, energetic and thought provoking all at the same time. ".. Nick Charles (Rhythms Magazine-Feb 2008).. .. "Sheer vivacity, musicality and inherent ability to entertain" (Tony Hillier-Rhythms Magazine 2002).. .. "As a unit Jigzag are as tight as a jigsaw, though there's always space for spontaneity. It's a perfect blend of instrumental skills and voices. Greg Bryce (guitar), Elisabeth Frencham (upright bass) and Caroline Trengove (violin/viola) fit together like interlocking pieces. They read each other's moves like reef fish. All innovative players and singers, lead and harmony, they also have a flair for writing catchy yet thought-provoking songs. Their folky pop contains bright splashes of jazz, blues, classical and Celtic.".. .. "Live performance is Jigzag's lifeblood so it's nigh tantamount to stating the bleeding obvious to say that the new album shows off their best qualities. Recorded before a studio audience in Melbourne and at festivals in Victoria and Queensland, Live! stands as eloquent testimony to the Sydney trio's stage artistry.".. .. "Sheer vivacity, musicality and inherent ability to entertain".. .. (Tony Hillier-Rhythms Magazine).. .. .. "Jigzag were a revelation! This three-piece high energy band from Sydney combine Celtic snap, heartfelt ballads and punchy folk with energetic, joyful stage presentation. See them if you ever can. Buy their CD. It's on the web." .. Steve Baker .. Tablelands Folk Festival .. Yungaburra, Qld .. .. "The coalescence of voices sends shivers down the spine, and there's no greater tribute to musicians than that they can make ring, like a spoon on a glass, a resonant chord within." .. .. "The trio, of guitar, violin and double bass, blend acoustic folk, pop, Celtic, jazz and even country swing; these streams flow into a river that glistens on the surface with sunlight, yet has a musical and emotional depth to it." .. .. ..Jigzag - “Dancing in the Kitchen” album preview tour: May 2010
Rarely does a trio come along who are all innovative and eloquent writers, accomplished and creative instrumentalists and charistmatic performers. Together they are Jigzag: creating a powerful sound and an energetic presence so much greater than the sum of the parts.
Since their humble beginnings busking in Sydney's central railway tunnel back in 1997, Jigzag has enraptured audiences at major festivals throughout Australia and beyond. The chemistry is rare and unmistakable and their friendship warm and tangible.
Their melted velvet vocals capture the intimacy of three players that have spent more than a decade honing their songs and performance.
The acoustic trio featuring Liz Frencham (double bass, vocals), Caroline Trengove (violin, percussion, vocals) and Greg Bryce (guitar, vocals) has played all Australia’s major folk festivals and have featured at festivals in Finland, Denmark, the UK, Canada and beyond. Amongst their amassed honours are a 2008 Golden fiddle award for Best Band, their Jigzag Live Album was voted Hottest Contemporary Folk Album by Trad and Now magazine in 2006 and 2005 saw them voted Best Live Act by the Australian Folk Alliance. They have released four albums and one live DVD and their fifth studio album “Heart-shaped House” is finally taking shape, set for a spring 2010 release.
Following their recent run of festivals including Woodford (QLD), Port Fairy (VIC), Corinbank (ACT) and Illawarra Folk Festivals (NSW), the “Dancing in the Kitchen” tour is coming your way to the Mark Hotel on Sunda the 16th of May - Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle. The band will be previewing songs from the new album. Don't miss it!
