Bio:
Described in the Nashville press as the “Scottish Songbird”, Jill Jackson is a singer songwriter from Paisley whose versatile musical and vocal abilities stretch across genres as diverse as pop, rock, folk and the country music that's in her heart. As a solo artist her work is far removed from the music she made as the front-woman of rock band Speedway, with whom she enjoyed three top 40 hits, including a top 10 in the UK Charts with ‘Genie In A Bottle’. “When Speedway came to an end I decided to go back to my roots and play the kind of music that I love - Dolly Parton, Shelby Lynne, the Stones, Buddy Holly, Chet Atkins and Joni Mitchell. I just wanted to strip the whole sound back.” From rock chick to alternative country girl Jill has been gigging and recording as a solo artist since 2005. She has toured with Natalie Imbruglia and supported acts such as Albert Lee, Roger McGuinn, Blue and Bryan Adams. In 2006 Jill fulfilled a lifelong ambition when she performed at the Bluebird Café in Nashville. Not only a talented performer, Jill is also known for her work as a songwriter and former Spice Girl Melanie C cut two of Jill’s songs for her fourth solo album in 2007. After spending the latter part of 2008 on a “50 States in 50 Days” tour of the U.S., Jill returned to 'T In The Park' Festival in July 2009 - her first appearance as a solo artist. Her profile continued to grow throughout 2009 into 2010 with a television appearance on STV's The Hour in January to promote her 2010 Celtic Connections gig at Glasgow’s Classic Grand. Jill continued gigging throughout 2010, including an appearance at the Wickerman Festival in July of that year. In December 2010 Jill supported Runrig on their UK Winter tour, closely followed by a tour with Glasgow band Glasvegas in January 2011. In both cases Jill was playing to brand new audiences and didn’t take long to win them over with her rich vocals, engaging lyrics and a rare ability to connect with audiences everywhere. Jill’s work has also attracted the attention of the television and film industry, with her song ‘Just Not Myself’ being featured in the penultimate episode of BBC Three’s Lip Service in December 2010. Her connection with the show led to increased media coverage, resulting in a series of Sold Out gigs across the UK. The tour gave Jill an opportunity to promote her much-anticipated solo album “Back To Zero” (released February 2011). Recorded in both Scotland and Denmark throughout 2010 with producer Kristian Gislason, “Back To Zero” is a project that has been four years in the making. “It's got songs on it that I wrote three or four years ago, but they're very close to my heart so I had to include them. Then there are some tracks that were written days before we started recording.” From older tracks like ‘Grasshopper’ and ‘Jealousy’ through to newer songs like ‘Tongue Tied’ and ‘Get My Love’, the album offers a varied mix of styles and emotional experience. “It's a good mix in that sense, because it reflects various points in my life over the last four years.” “This new record will be the one that defines me as a writer. It’s fun, intense and hugely personal”. With a musical style that has matured since her 2006 acoustic album, the new record retains the same mix of brilliantly crafted lyrics and beautiful melodies that fans have come to expect from Jill Jackson. .. .. It ended with us wearing rubber gloves, hysterical laughing, dropping it every 2 seconds and her realising it was the wrong one!
