Described in the Nashville press as the “Scottish Songbird”, Jill Jackson is a singer songwriter from Paisley who brings her own unique style to the contemporary country music genre. As a solo artist her acoustic Americana is far removed from the music she made as the front-woman of rock band Speedway, with whom she scored two top ten hits in 2004. But one thing remains the same: she’s still a girl with a guitar and a voice you won’t forget. “When Speedway came to an end I decided to go back to my roots and play the kind of music that I love - Dolly Parton, Shelby Lynne, the Stones, Buddy Holly, Chet Atkins and Joni Mitchell. I just wanted to strip the whole sound back.” From rock chick to alternative country girl Jill has been gigging and recording as a solo artist since 2005. She has toured with Natalie Imbruglia and supported musicians such as Albert Lee, Roger McGuinn and Bryan Adams. In 2006 she fulfilled a lifelong ambition when she performed at the Bluebird Café in Nashville. Not only a talented performer, Jill is also known for her work as a songwriter and former Spice Girl Melanie C cut two of Jill’s songs for her fourth solo album. Jill’s work has also attracted the attention of the television and film industry, with several of her tracks being considered for upcoming productions on both the big and small screen. After spending the latter part of 2008 on a “50 States in 50 Days” tour of the U.S., Jill went back into the studio in February 2009 to record her second album, which she plans to release later this year. It was the first time she’d been in the studio with her current band - Alan Frew, Carl Taylor and Lorna Thomas, all of whom are brilliant musicians in their own right. The new material - in which you can hear the influence of Emmylou Harris, Shelby Lynne and Patti Griffin - reveals a musical style that has matured since her 2006 acoustic album but retains the same mix of brilliantly crafted lyrics and beautiful melodies. 2009 promises to be a big year for Jill Jackson. News on release dates for the new album to follow. In the meantime you can buy Jill's 2006 acoustic album from Itunes or CDBaby: http://cdbaby.com/cd/ukjjackson or her very own online shop www.teamjackson.co.uk, where you can also purchase her 2009 ukulele EP entitled "Painted Faces" as well as Team Jackson baseball tees.
