Jill Porter, a prolific singer/songwriter has recently burst onto the Newfoundland music scene with her blend of pop/rock style, true-to-the bone performance and smoky vocals. Her unique style has lead to performances with acts such as Matt Mays, Jimmy Rankin, and Sam Roberts. She has a solid track record serving as background vocalist for recording artists like Pamela Morgan, Mark Bragg, Terry Penny, Andrew Ledrew and The Novaks.
With the release of her debut album in August 2005, we are seeing the emergence of a new major artist. The first single, Rock and Roll Songs has been in steady rotation on radio stations in Newfoundland and across Canada. The self-titled album also earned her nominations for new artist of the year, female artist and alternative artist at the 2005 MusicNL awards conference. Early in 2006 she launched into the regional music scene with a highly anticipated tour through the Atlantic Provinces. The tour ended with an impressive lineup of showcase appearances in PEI during the ECMAs, which lead to a showcase opportunity at junofest in Halifax. Determined to get what she wants, she continues to be resiliently available to take charge against the odds of a tight-lipped scene and gets her points across without threatening her stance as a respected lady of music. Porters music is relevent and couldnt have arrived at a better time.
